Ta Prohm (Khmer: ប្រាសាទតាព្រហ្ម, UNGEGN: Ta Prôhm, ALA-LC: Tā Brahm [taː prom]; "Ancestor Brahma") is the modern name of a temple near the city of Siem Reap, Cambodia, approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray. It was built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th century and early 13th century and was originally called Rajavihara (Khmer: រាជវិហារ, UNGEGN: Réachvĭhar, ALA-LC: Rājvihār [riəc.vihiə]; "Royal Monastery"). It was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and center of learning dedicated to his mother. Almost 80,000 people were required to live in or visit the temple, including over 2,700 officials and 615 dancers.
The temple is referred to as the "Tomb Raider Temple" or the "Angelina Jolie Temple" due to its depiction in the film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001).

One of the best temples in Siem Reap. Even though there was some construction going on in some areas and it could get loud, walking around the huge trees and rocks was a great experience. I would spend at least two hours in the temple, it takes a while to navigate through all sites and around the walls. Best time to visit is right after sunrise as it can get very crowded later in the day.

Only one suggestion: Come as early as possible and you won't be disappointed. The trees, the movie and the story. This is the temple for the mother and this is the last post about Angkor from my last visit. I came here in early 2016 and spent nearly two weeks in this great, unique and fantastic place. This is once in a lifetime experience. Hope everyone enjoys and have a good stay. All the best. cheers.

One of the 3 top spots of Angkor. So, Ta Prohm is full of tourists. Most of them the same masses of Chinese visitors that flood through Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple. Because of Lara Croft's Tomb Raider made the place famous, everyone must see the hidden ways, fig tree-covered walls, the hidden Buddha Face, the crawling dragon and the "dinosaur". Hello creationists, this might be a fake :)

This place is known from thé movie : the Tomb Raider. At around 10 km from Siem Reap, inside the jungle . You find here a harmony between nature and the old architectures since the temple ruins are overgrown by trees. This bring along a mystic feeling and makes the temple different and unique amongst the others. 5 stars quotation surely earned well !

Breath taking sights. It's the place where parts of the movie Tomb raider with Angelina Jioly took place. The temple is mostly ruin and big trees coming out of the buildings which is amazing. Some work has been done, not any restoration and I believe they should do some restoration at the temple. The temple is big and overcrowded and after time to visit the temple is 6-7 o'clock in the morning or 4 o'clock afternoon.

Wow....i know it sounds like a kid...but this was a very cool and amazing place. From a Tomb Raider moment to a spiritual awakening....it has both. I highly recommend getting the at 7:30am on the not if not earlier, it gets way too crowded and you cannot take pictures without other guests in the way. Even if you are there later...still well worth the trip. Take your camera and extra charger...you wont regret it! Make sure to try the local Cambodian cuisine at the little stands around the temple...delicious!!

Ta Prohm is one of the main temples in Cambodia and it's considered as one of the most beautiful temple. Located in the jungle, about 12km from Siem Reap, Ta Prohm is a sample temple of how nature and temple have been struggling over 400years since the city was abandoned. Built in year 1186AD, Ta Prohm was dedicated to king's mother and also served as the Royal Buddhist monastery.

One of the top 3 temples not to miss while visiting Siem Reap. Famous because of the Tomb Raider movie with Angelina Jolie. Seeing temples overgrown with tree roots bigger than a house is very impressive. I suggest to go an visit early mornings, before the tourist rush hour, like that you might have the temple not on your own, but nearly. I must see temple.

To walk in the footsteps of a Lost Civilization. Visit at dawn. Forget that sunrise photo over the main Temple, go straight in to explore without the crowds. Breathe in the History and emerse yourself in the quiet. As you leave, all those "sunrise" photographers will be rushing in. Stay one step ahead. Be respectful. Dress modestly and never climb the Ruins. Watch out for the cheeky monkeys. Toilet facilities are around. Mostly......take your time and Marvel at the Extraordinary feats of man. Oh, Enjoy.

I had to think about whether this temple still deserves the highest rating. Even though I am not as thrilled to visit it as I once was any more, it still is one of the main reasons for visiting the Angkor Park and is an absolute must whether you are a photographer or not. For photographers there is of course no question, this temple has to visited several times, even if you are in Siem Reap for only a few days. The only problem for photography is at what time of day and for how long you should stay. It wholly depends upon the weather, the number of tourists and how much patience you have. Very early is better and very late is better, and as I mentioned before having a lot of patience is best.

currently (May,2018), the temple still under repairing process, hence some working area has been restricted for working safety reason. however, there has very clear walking path routing to lead a tourist to travel around temple easily without disturbing the repairing task that's still in progress. I can't imagine which shape of the new Ta phrom imaging will be changed after the repairing project have completed in the near future. this is absolutely worth visiting place.

This is possibly one of the most beautiful and amazing places I have ever been. How can you describe this breathtaking temple. Easy to say: it is impossible. You have to visit it. You have to feel the atmosphere there. Definitely a place you should not miss on your Cambodia journey!

I have been to Ta Prohm 5 times over the last 16 years and I still consider it a stunning temple. Its beauty comes by many huge massive trees that's roots have taken over the temple. Thankfully back in the 19th century Ta Prohm was uncovered by the French. They loved the ficus and silk trees merging with ancient walls and pillars so decided not to conduct a full-scale restoration. My biggest tip would be to get here very early or late in the afternoon when there isn't so many people.

Ta Prohm temple is one of the best temple situated in small circles of temple group. I took my family to explore that temple recently. It was about 10km away from Siem Reap city. My little girls loved the big trees around the temple and root that looked like a giant snake. The sound of parrots singing in three was really amazing. Old temple, lots of big trees, and sound of birds made our weekend enjoyably wonderful. That temple was well-known as Tomb Raider Temple, as an American Action movie stared by Angelina Julie called Tomb Raider was filmed there, that's why; he was named so. Go there, you never disappoint with this beautifully wonderful. I highly recommend this temple to everyone visiting the ancient ruin in Siem Reap

This temple was featured in the first Tomb Raider movie (along with the magestic Angkor Wat). That's why this temple is also called Tomb Raider temple. This is the exact spot where Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) finds a secret passage that takes her right under the ground.
