Pidurangala Vihara (Sinhala: පිදුරංගල විහාරය) is an ancient Buddhist temple situated in Pidurangala village of Matale District, Sri Lanka. The temple was constructed on a massive rock called Pidurangala, which is located a few kilometers north of the historical fort Sigiriya.
It is said that the name Pidurangala was derived from the Sinhala words pidu + ran + goda. In English language it means "offered piles of gold".

A great hike and worth it for the amazing view from the top. Can reach the peak less than 1 hour But its exhausting if you try it close to noon. Best to climb in the evening.🌅

Great view on top. People make out as if the last bit of the climb is merely a matter of there not being steps. It's harder than that, not in the sense of being strenuous, but you need to be fit and sufficiently flexible. Wouldn't recommend to the average person over 60.

Awesome view, climb is not too hard and gets a wee bit tricky at the end but only for the last bit. Make sure you have something to cover shoulders and knees for the entrance which is at the temple below! The ticket seller did not mind shorts but did mind skirts that were very short.

Well worth the climb which is challenging at the end in a fun way, nothing to extreme but you definitely need to be fit to get to the top because your climbing rocks not stairs. The view is simply amazing especially early in the morning.you for a nice 360 degrees view also of the more famous Sigiriya rock. It cost only 500 rupees as a donation. It was not crowded at all. Would recommend a visit.

The temple was constructed on a massive rock called Pidurangala,Not in the top of the rock but a very calm and safe place in the middle part of the rock. which is located a few kilometers north of the historical fort Sigiriya. I would like to call it A nature lovers paradise .

Marvellous view even though the steps are a bit steep and all. The last part of the hike was a bit risky but then when you reach the top you'll definitely go wow. Such a beautiful place and a view! If you love adventure, you've got to hike this.

Awesome experience! Quite a hike with steps going only half way through and a rock climb from there onwards. Such a scenic view of the Famous Sigiriya rock.

Really enjoyed this, we were advised this was quieter, if a little more difficult at the very top, than Lion rock, this proved to be the case, we got to the base at 8.00 in the morning, we took a guide, who helped my wife and was a lovely guy, he helped us over the difficult bits, and he had a great time taking pictures with my SLR camera, the views of Lion rock were tremendous, after a good time at the top we descended the rock, again once over the boulders it was a very easy climb down, not to hot with shelter from the trees most of the way, we got to the bottom at 10.00, still plenty of the day left. So go early, take water, wear comfy trainers or boots, don't be afraid to have a guide, bear in mind that our guide does this daily in flip flops! Also a friend of ours did it in flip flops, but he's 22 and I'm 60, enjoy it, it's great.

Pidurangala rock is situwated close to the world famous Sigiriya Lion Rock. Access to the Pidurangala rock is through the Pidurangala ancient temple. You have to climb a steep rock stairs. It's tiresome but once you reach the peak you will love it. This is where you will get a magnificent view of Sigiriya Lion Rock. Don't forget to capture it for your memories.

We got here just after dawn- strenuous and a bit of scrambling required at the top, otherwise not too tough. No vertigo issues either. But no safety ropes or barriers either. The views were amazing especially of Lion Rock and uncrowded in comparison. Could not recommend highly enough.

Superb view in early mornings and evenings. In the early mornings a lot of local and foreign tourists arrive at the top to witness the sunshine. In the day time it can get hot. I would recommend the best time to visit as the mornings and the evenings where you can observe the surroundings with an amazing view of the world heritage Sigiriya Lion Rock.

An amazing destination that I have ever travelled in my life. The climbing was super amazing and I just love it. For sure you must visit Pidurangala Rock 😍

Best views in Sigiriya. Definitely worth getting up here for the sunrise. You can't miss the entrance as the temple is lit up. The final part of the climb is bouldering so does require you to be physically fit.

Definitely recommend!! Rougher climb near the top, but definitely worth it!! You do have to buy a ticket, but it's cheaper than the big rock. If you're choosing between the two, I'd recommend this rather than Sigiriya rock! Amazing views from the beautiful, fairly flat top!
