The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 163-year-old tropical garden located at the fringe of the Orchard Road shopping district in Singapore. It is one of three gardens, and the only tropical garden, to be honoured as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Botanic Gardens has been ranked Asia's top park attraction since 2013, by TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards. It was declared the inaugural Garden of the Year, International Garden Tourism Awards in 2012.
The Botanic Gardens was founded at its present site in 1859 by the Agri-horticultural Society. It played a pivotal role in the region's rubber trade boom in the early twentieth century, when its first scientific director Henry Nicholas Ridley, headed research into the plant's cultivation. By perfecting the technique of rubber extraction, still in use today, and promoting its economic value to planters in the region, rubber output expanded rapidly. At its height in the 1920s, the Malayan peninsula cornered half of the global latex production.

There is a restaurant or breakfast cafe near the entrance of the Botanic Gardens, so it's easily accessible and lots of great food too! Called the Bee's Knees. Also the place is vast and there are plenty of luscious fauna and flora there. Great for photo taking and family outings :) Although it gets a little hot in the afternoon, there's also plenty of shade there as well. The place is beautiful and is great for tourists and of course locals. Absolutely love it.

Great place to send a peaceful day. The Orchid Gardens are a must. They have created one of the best Orchids I have ever seen. Recommend 4 to 6 hours spend. You can do very quick look around in an hour. But I recommend good half say to enjoy what they have created here

Amazing spot for both tourists and locals. For tourists, the botanic gardens offers you a wonderful experience in learning about our floral varieties. This will be a perfect place to relax after travelling all around Singapore. You can even have picnics here or dine at our local restaurants that fuses local and exotic flavours bringing you something very very special. For the locals, the gardens is a lovely spot to chill with your families and friends, and also the perfect dating spot. You can also take the perfect ootd shots here.

The most beautiful botanical garden I've ever been to. The best part? They're completely free and easy to access. Just get off at the Botanical garden MTR station and you can't miss it! Definitely spend the extra money for the orchid area. It's well worth it.

One of the most relaxing places in Singapore. With free entry, the Botanic Gardens is hard to beat. There is a lot to see so pace yourself and try not to go during the heat of the day. Make sure to pack water. A fun place to bring your family. A safe haven for nature lovers who are sick of the city.

Our very own UNESCO World Heritage site. This old dame has been around since before independence and it provides a nice respite from the busy city state goings-on. Come here for the varied plant species, Orchid Gardens or simply just to have a run or walk. During the weekends, indulge in the periodic free performances and concerts; what better way to spend the weekend among greenery and the arts. Great for picnics and runabouts for little ones or the pet pooch.

This place is great! It has a lot of different types of plants and very detailed explanation about those plants. It is a great place to learn or to bring your family. There is also a playground and a mist area which kids will enjoy and there are a few restaurants I think. I love this place and there are a lot of tourists visiting this place. Definitely worth checking out if you are a tourist

Great place for regular jogging, outing and having fun. Kids friendly, fun places available for kids. Food available inside. Pond, flowers, huge trees, swans etc. Lots of empty space for playing. Symphony orchestra inside ..live music in front of the lotus pond is amazing. Check the video clip. Must must visit place.

There's a reason why the Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of the most popular places to visit. It's huge - I've gotten "lost" in it numerous times! It's a central pocket of greenery, one of the oldest undeveloped parts of Singapore and has trees and plants going back to the 1800s. Check the website for weekend concerts - bring along a picnic basket, mat and food and drinks to chill out. There's lots of floral and fauna to see - birds, butterflies, dragonflies, squirrels, monkeys, monitor lizards and more live in the gardens. Try the Orchid Garden too - Burkill Hall, a traditional Black and White bungalow is within. The new Learning Forest annex with the bridge is interesting to explore with a great view at the top of the bridge walkway. There's toilets and drinks and food at various points.

Like anything in Singapore the gardens are well planned. The gardens are very big and you can spend there 5 hours. However, we were there approximately two hours, visited the west side of the park. Variety of plants, trees, flowers and animals (in the lake). Some of the activities inside the gardens require entry fees while the entry to the botanic gardens is free of cost. We had great experience there and I wish you too.

This must be one of the most wonderful free places to visit in Singapore! Beautifully landscaped with a lovely variety of flora which as you can imagine in Singapore's tropical climate, grows so lushly. There are reasonably priced and higher end eateries in the gardens as well as surgically clean toilets which are designed to blend in with the gardens perfectly. We'd watched the Duke Ellington Band play by the Symphony Lake and I couldn't think of a better way to spend a late Sunday afternoon.

The gardens are absolutely beautiful! And there is no cost so this is perfect for anyone on a budget or anyone interested in gardening/flowers/nature. You could spend an entire day here looking at everything as there is so much to see. Just beautiful. The Orchid gardens have a $5 entrance fee but only $1 for students, including foreigners. Definitely worth seeing!! Especially as a UNESCO World Heritage site

I cannot believe this place was free. You could spend a full day walking through this garden. This is such a wonderful place to have in your city and something every city should have for it's residence. The paths are long and wide and even on a Sunday afternoon it was not crowded. Scattered throughout the gardens are also grassy parks for people to picnic and play. Dogs are allowed in the park and they were all beautifully behaved. All in all this was a great experience and one I would highly recommend.

Excellent place for plant lovers!!!! So many amazing tropical species and it is a UNESCO heritage. It is also a place for locals to enjoy the weekend. I spent a couple of hours walking around. It is for free, except for the Orchids Garden ($5). There are also restaurants and souvenir shops inside.

Me and my brother's family were having a picnic here a couple of days ago. The garden is quite spacious, a lot of greenery, it also has spaces for children. During hot season, it is recommended to come here after 4 pm so you don't feel as hot. You can bring your own picnic rug or use a thin tablecloth (you can buy easily at Daiso for S$2) to make your own space to sit down and relax. Some animals like turtles, swans live here peacefully and sometimes people bring their pets here. Highly recommended place to hangout with friends or family.

This is a really peaceful place to go for a walk. The various scenery and garden views are one that you can seldom find in a city. From lake to maze, there are always something for everyone. Good to bring kids and elderly here too. It's also full of history and heritage that sees the changes in Singapore history. Last but not least, this is one of the safest country in the world too. You will see joggers jogging even at night time too. You can safely stroll here during your visit to Singapore.

Botanic Gardens is a nice place for a walk or a short outdoor workout. However Singapore is incredibly humid, so going in December might be a better idea. Picnics there are also beautiful. Just be aware of the different exits and entrances. Botanic Gardens is huge and isn't confined to an area in Singapore. If you're looking for a specific place in Botanic Gardens ( specific attraction / cafe / etc), look at the map and find the respective place to park / take a train to. If not you may have to walk quite a long distance to get to where you want to.

Fabulous place, well cared for and great place to be interested in tropical Flora away from the bustle of the city streets. The gardens are free, though there is the national orchid garden within the gardens that requires a modest fee - totally worth it as it is spectacular! Over 50K varieties of orchids in all manner of display; laced up curving arches, forming large vertical walls, sneaking into little nooks...all in a lovely, meandering landscape.
