Skegness ( skeg-NESS) is a seaside town and civil parish in the East Lindsey District of Lincolnshire, England. On the Lincolnshire coast of the North Sea, the town is 43 miles (69 km) east of Lincoln and 22 miles (35 km) north-east of Boston. With a population of 19,579 as of 2011, it is the largest settlement in East Lindsey. It also incorporates Winthorpe and Seacroft, and forms a larger built-up area with the resorts of Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards to the north. The town is on the A52 and A158 roads, connecting it with Boston and the East Midlands, and Lincoln respectively. Skegness railway station is on the Nottingham to Skegness (via Grantham) line.
The original Skegness was situated farther east at the mouth of The Wash. Its Norse name refers to a headland which sat near the settlement. By the 14th century, it was a locally important port for coastal trade. The natural sea defences which protected the harbour eroded in the later Middle Ages, and it was lost to the sea after a storm in the 1520s. Rebuilt along the new shoreline, early modern Skegness was a small fishing and farming village, but from the late 18th century members of the local gentry visited for holidays. The arrival of the railways in 1873 transformed it into a popular seaside resort. This was the intention of The 9th Earl of Scarbrough, who owned most of the land in the vicinity; he built the infrastructure of the town and laid out plots, which he leased to speculative developers. This new Skegness quickly became a popular destination for holiday-makers and day trippers from the East Midlands factory towns. By the interwar years the town was established as one of the most popular seaside resorts in Britain. The layout of the modern seafront dates to this time and holiday camps were built around the town, including the first Butlin's holiday resort which opened in Ingoldmells in 1936.

A lovely place to visit, especially if you have young kids. You can park nearby, there is shop and restaurant on site though these are both a little expensive. Well worth a visit. The staff were lovely, the place was clean and it was entertaining for the missus and kid... I'm not really into fish but I still thought it was decent.

Came on a beaver sleep over... A good time was had by all. Good good for both young and old... Catered for our gluten free and veggie members... But best of all friendly and knowledgeable staff that interact fantastically with young people.

Love visiting Skegness Aquarium! Great for a day out - love all the fish and attractions, and a great cafe, restaurant and kids play area upstairs. Good value for money too - a huge benefit to Skegness!

It's a small cozy aquarium, but with a lot of interesting little details and good curation. The main tank has a good variety of tropical fish that you can even dive with if you book with the dive center there well in advance.

A brilliant place to visit, staff are very good with young & old alike. Always have time to talk to visitors. We’ve visited with a 6 yr old a few times & staff have been really kind, patient & had time to explain everything. It’s somewhere that’s excellent for children & adults. A fine cafe & play area, a good place to spend a day.

Great little public aquarium, small but packed with display tanks, all of which are clean and colourful. The variety of fish and inverts is very good. There is a large tank with sharks, rays and a wide selection of smaller fish. The staff are friendly, and the talks are good, as they are very interactive and packed with information. Overall, this is well worth travelling for! Great way to kill a couple of hours. P.S. Many reviews slaughter the cafe, but it's excellent. I had a slice of Jaffa cake, which tasted AMAZING!!!

I paid twenty pounds for me and my boyfriend to enter, we were then told to wait until there was a big enough group to enter. Once we'd waited long enough we were forced to sit through a pirate themed video aimed at kids and weren't allowed to move on until it had finished. The exhibits were poor at best, the octopuses that were advertised turned out to be a small tank with one octopus, and the sharks turned out to be a few feet long at most, the biggest fish they had was an eel, and the tropical fish they had were the kind usually found in home aquariums, including mine. We spent around twenty minutes in there and couldn't believe it when we found out we'd finished it. One of only two large tanks was in a small room meaning it was too full for us to even see most of the tank when we got there and there was very loud audio which was extremely bad quality, tinny and hurt to listen to.

Nice little aquarium, great for kids. Plenty of species of fish and other sea creatures from around the world also has a cafe upstairs with a little indoor soft playarea. Recommend to anyone.

Really enjoyed this aquarium, nice exhibits and well thought out. The dive feed is definitely worth a watch. Cafe is good and there is a small play area for the kids which helps when your eating etc.

Brilliant experience for kids, my 3 year old and his friend had an amazing time. Many types of fish and activities for them and it even has a soft play upstairs. Definitely worth the price.

Located just off the sea front (Park in the swimming pool car park for £1/hour) so this is a convenient attraction for those looking for something a bit different. There is a pirate theme which is present throughout the aquarium and children are given question cards to fill in while walking around. There are some beautiful fish which are amazing under certain lighting (which the aquarium provides) there is a policy of no flash photography which I was a little upset to see not being enforced (as it clearly distressed some of the animals in some cases) The upstairs play area is very big and my son loved it. Cafe is averagely priced for the location of the attraction. Overall some beautiful animals in a very clean and educational surrounding. Recommended visit!

A nice aquarium with diverse sea creatures. Friendly staff and helpful. Long John is a beautiful spotted Shark. Lots of fun to go through. There are educational times allocated for children education in the aquarium. It's a worth the money. Lots of souvenir and soft toys to purchase in th Aquarium shop.

Really enjoyed the visit. Good value for money, really nice and helpful staff. Play area and cafe upstairs all clean and tidy. Amazing variety and sea life and an awesome shop at the end.

Really enjoyed our visit. Facilities were to a good standard, staff knowledge was excellent and the animals seemed happy in their habitat. The soft play in cafe area was a welcome surprise and cafe staff were extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit, we'll certainly be going back.

Really enjoyable however I felt there wasn't enough. They have focused alot on children doing activities along the way however if your children don't want to get involved in that there aren't many areas with the fish. Nice play area with great views of the sea front. It is lovely but more fish needed.
