Hidden in the mountains, right under your nose, the monastery exists next to the urban development. Its buildings stand tall and proud, yet unseen from the main road to Aleko Hut. Even in winter, the yard, church and living quarters hold their majestic stanza. You can feel the past in the church curves, in the water dripping thru the ice - just as it did for centuries.
It is one of the most popular monasteries around Sofia and with a good reason. Located in the mountain the place is very beautiful and serene. Definitely worth the walk to check it!
Very good destination for a walk 30 min walking distance from the city.
Not too far from the city. Good for Sunday walks.
Very beautiful hike in the forest of rhe Vitosha mountain. This quiet monetary was the hiding place of a famous Bulgarian revolutionary, Vasil Levski, from 1880-1882 during the Ottoman yoke.
A bit touristic but still authentic... Visit and combine with a nice (long or short) walk in the mountain - one of the biggest treasures of Sofia!
