The Earth and Man National Museum (Bulgarian: Национален музей „Земята и хората“, romanized Natsionalen muzey „Zemyata i horata“) is a mineralogical museum in the centre of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
It's one of the biggest mineralogical museums in the world. It was founded on 30 December 1985 and opened for visitors on 19 June 1987. The museum is situated in a reconstructed and adapted historic building with an area of 4,000 m² (43056 square feet) constructed in the end of the 19th century (1896–1898). It has a number of exhibition halls, stock premises, laboratories, a video room and a conference room. Its collection covers 40% of all known naturally occurring minerals as well as man-made ceramics prepared by Bulgarian scientists.

Great specimens found there. You can learn a lot about geological formations, different crystals and many other things. There is a nice map inside of different minerals found around Bulgaria. Also the biggest amethyst crystals I have ever seen. Truly amazing. There is like a history section of precious stones and metals used in the making of jewellery, modern and primitive tools, different industries and technology. There is also a nice souvenir shop. I fell in love with some items there but it was a bit pricy for me personally. Also they offer free tours from time to time. Anyway great museum.

A unique and beautifully placed museum with incredible pieces of minerals and their use in everyday's materials, as well as information for Bulgaria's miners. Also an educational chamber for kids. English captions available. You have the impression of being in space among the rocks. The lady in the reception was the nicest I've ever seen. There is also a small shop with mainly jewelry.

The museum has an impressive collection of precious and semi-precious stones, most of which have been recovered in Bulgaria. You can park in front of the building of the museum for free. Entrance through Hilton's parking lot if you enter from boulevard Cherni vrah. Get a parcking ticket at the Hilton's parking barrier, drive through, exit with that ticket (it is free as parking is free for 30 minutes), then make a left and drive all the way to the museum, where you can park.

Great collection of minerals. It was very interesting. The lighting and interior should be improved - they need more lights in some places and contemporary look.

I didn't think the lighting was very good and made the minerals hard to see properly sometimes. Also you have to bend down quite a lot to read the labels. There are a lot of different types of minerals (as well as a materials section). I especially liked some metallic-green, alien-like malochite I came across upstairs at the back. Well worth the 4 leva, and only a short walk from my hostel in the centre. I probably spent about an hour inside and I will go again if I have the chance.

One of the best museums I've been at. Huge assortment of natural minerals and crystals and man made products. It could have more details on the specimen though. Scarce information on the labeling.

Interesting rocks. There is a special corner for the kids.
