Huge place, many thematically arranged expositions. At least 2-3 hours of time to check it out. At least. The outside yard is full of different t war machines, dating from different centuries and WW 1 or WW 2 armies. There are monthly and seasonal exhubitions which means that there will always be something new to see throughout the year. Make sure to ask for headphones with English language explanation, sometimes and for certain exhibitions they might be available. There are some parts of the museum which are representing real war situations, with loud shooting and military music at certain spots of the exhibition. My personal favourite is the top floor of the museum with the medals and special ornaments and prizes from each country in Europe and many others.

Probably the best museum in Sofia. Of a grand scale with many different things to look at all with comprehensive descriptions. The tanks/helicopters/planes etc are very interesting. Only thing I would say is that there is absolutely nowhere to buy a drink or some food (was definitely needed after the LONG walk from Sofia as there are no metro stations nearby)

Inside you will find many relics and artifacts of Bulgarian. There are displays starting in around the 11th century but the main focus starts in the 19th century. The displays house many uniforms, medals, guns, swords and such. No photos were permitted. Outside there is a large collection of tanks, artillery, planes and missiles. I enjoyed the experience but there was a lot of reading. Fortunately most of the displays are also in English.

Its a fantastic and amazing museum to go if you are into guns, weapons and armour etc. You can probably spend half a day in the museum to look and understand through thoroughly of all the history of the past war Bulgaria have been thru. All the exhibits are well preserved and being displayed. But do take not not photography it's allow in the museum. But you are allow to take photo of the tanks, planes and other heavy military vehicles that are displayed outside. There's information in both English and Bulgarian in the museum. If you are a student entrance fees is only 2 leva. But remember to bring ur student ID along.

Nice to visit if want to see War History. The National Military History Museum in Sofia is a military, research and cultural-educational institute, administratively subordinate to the Ministry of Defense. The museum has the status of a national institution of Bulgaria.

Random but fun. A lot of military things to see and the museum gives some interesting Bulgarian historical context. Kids will love all the planes and tanks.

Fantastic. Really enjoyed my visit here. Not busy. Great outdoor display of Soviet planes and other hardware. If you like military museums you'll like this one.

Great collection if military machines and weapons, huge chronological exhibition of all Bulgarian conflicts in the newer history 19th - 21th century. You can see german tanks, russian tanks and jet fighters, many different radar systems and anti air, also altilery guns.

Huge. Well organized, giving enough information that I understood everything, despite the fact that I knew absolutely nothing about Bulgarian history before my visit. They, very wisely, focus on the artifacts rather than text. Even the lighting was well done. By the way, the text was in multiple languages. Outside, you can look up close at all sorts of tanks, apcs, missile launchers, and artillery pieces, plus a few aircraft. It would be a very long walk from the city center, but a short taxi ride. Friendly staff. I wish that I could give 6 stars.

Massive amount of old military vehicles. You get to see a lot for free but there is an even greater selection if you pay. We'll worth a visit.

A nice 4 plane museum, with a really beautiful garden with old tanks and fighter jets, also some big rocket launchers. The building begins with the oldest history at the first plane and further up to plane 3. I recommend visiting the forth plane if you're interested in weapons :) The reason I gave the museum 4/5 stars is that the guides didn't speak English. We we're lucky that we met one on the way out.

Good place to walk around and touch some oldish military hardware. The museum exposition itself is nothing exceptional and I would like it to be ordered a bit better. As Bulgarian I know most of the history presented, but even I am a bit confused what is where and what is the point they make. As a kid I remember when the same museum was in the center of Sofia and I played as kid climbing on these same tanks and guns. I personally think it was a crime that the museum was moved from it's old place just to grab the prime real estate it was on and to make some ugly building there, which o think should be demolished and the museum moved back to it's original place.

Nice collection of military hardware outside, although some of it is in rather poor shape. Interesting exhibits inside. Most things are labeled in both Bulgarian and English, which was nice.
