This is a unique place in the world. The centre of the city with population of about 300,000 inhabitants, is in fact, an actual Roman palace, built by emperor Diocletian in the turn of 2nd to 3rd century CE. It's pretty well preserved and original Roman streets, buildings and temples are still very visible. The place looks like magic/miracle. Enjoy ...

Very beautiful piece of history, middle passage now serves as a souvenir market, some parts of the original palace are now residential buildings, streets of central Split, etc. The preserved part is mainly empty ruin, but still it gives you a feeling of past grandeur. I highly recommend exploring all parts of the museum, and then all areas around it, the "used to be" part. For photography you may want to use your wide angle lens.

impressive ... with its shape somewhat resembles a military camp, and was originally built as a tomb of a mansion ... its palaces contain many attractions - historical monuments (St. Duje cathedral, belfry, beautiful palace and gate of the palace, Peristil-square, and numerous cellars which is today used as a fair and exhibition space (one small piece of information for movie-makers lovers - the TV series of Games of the Throne was filmed) ... because of its numerous beauties in 1979 it is a UNESCO World Heritage list ... during my visit palace I AM IMPRESSED

Historical palace that is like a maze. Very amazing place to visit day and night. It is located near the beach and Split centre. Loads of souvenir shops and food available around the palace.

I went to palace of Diocletian in November, it was raining lots but it was so worth seeing. Be prepared to travel back in time! There was also not very many tourist during this time, which was great! You have the freedom to walk around/stay wherever you like. There is also shops built in inside the palace; some are modern unfortunately which don't fit in just right. Other than that, it's a must see !

Not a palace nor a museum but the city's living heart. Diocletian's Palace was the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian, an extraordinary example of well preserved monuments of the Roman architecture. The Palace was built as a combination of retirement residence of Diocletian and other buildings, intended for housing military garrison. At that time, Split was only four miles far from Salona, the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. Nowadays, don’t expect a palace though, nor a museum as this is the city's living heart (moreover, around 3.000 people permanently live “in the palace” today) and probably you will spend most of your time while in Split here (or at the beach) since its labyrinthine streets offer a wide array of restaurants, bars and shops.
Fabio Digliomars 12, 2018
The only thing to be admired It is present right on Split Riviera. Partially intact. along side the palace there are many shops where one can find good bargains.

Historical, very nicely renovated all around. All the tourists in Split visit this place so it can get pretty packed... Wear good shoes if it’s raining since the slick streets can get very slippery. Nice restaurants inside the palace too.
Veikka Niemiavr. 3, 2018
There is plenty to see, it's quite beautiful. The streets are narrow so be mindful of people trying to move around. There is a lot of cobble stones in the smaller streets so bring good flat shoes. There is also much flatter and newer streets bordering the palace. Even during the low season there are tons of people or maybe it was the single cruise ship, but the streets/market/basement were busy. It's a must see
Nicholas Bmai 11, 2018
It's a cool place to visit, especially the basement. Climbing the tower gives you an amazing view of the city. Accessibility is possible to many areas of the palace, though may require finding a route around to get to everywhere one would like to go. Cost to visit is minimal. I suggest visiting during the day and night to get different perspectives.

What a truly magical place this is! There is a bar which serves beverages in the square with live music. It is truly magical.., to drink a champagne in this beautiful setting. Soaking in all this beauty around. A must see for sure!

Referring to the heart of old town. To get the full experience you can walk through all the narrow widing streets that once were part of a grand old city. At the center there is a large open square that leads to the church and to the main port. Such a lovely place.

Superb place to visit. Lot of alleys around ruins of the Palace and nice sightseeing from the Tower. A lot of souvenirs around and many other surprises too. Just walk around and is worth it. Highly recommended!

It's a very pretty old town. You can feel the history by strolling around or sitting in the square by evening time with live music. We were lucky to receive the welcoming of the local "ruler", in a language that we could not understand lol. Good that he also knew some English ;) The down side is of course, since the city is so famous among the tourists, every single thing in the vicinity is designed and built with the sole purpose of earning money off the tourists. This took away some of the authenticity of the experience...
Xiaojun Cristinjuin 27, 2018
This is a must see in Split and pretty hard to miss as it makes up half of the old city. 😉 Buy the red ticket (€6) and get entry to both treasury, cathedral, temple, bell tower (most amazing view of Split) and church crypt. Set aside around 4h if you want to see it all or just enjoy the buildings from the outside or sit in the main place of the palace and have a coffee while looking at the old Egyptian columns and phinx from 3500BC. It's not without reason this place is on the UNESCO World Heritage site list. Children will enjoy to have their picture taken with the Roman soldiers in the yard. I find this place equally suited for families with or without children. Access is very difficult with a stroller or wheelchair. To the bell tower there are very strap steps and tiny staircases to bypass so you you are not fit or very big access is not possible. Parking around the palace is very limited so the best is to take a bus. The main bus station is just a few minutes walk from there.
Klaus Pedersenjuin 18, 2018
Small but beautiful open space. So clean. Marble everywhere. We spent hours just exploring the little streets. You can hear music and smell food. The lavender stalls adds to the little squares too.
Nótt ofNorsejuin 12, 2018
Lovely place to visit. The basement is the only original part left and is very popular amongst tourists. The bell tower of St Domnius to the left of the Sphinx is worth going up although be warned that the steps are very tall and uneven and the open sides can make it very scary to go up! Would recommend going to the top without looking out, then viewing as you come down.
Rachel Woodjuin 24, 2018
Had a very special stay in split because of great accommodation in the square. The palace offers a truly unique setting with a mix of history and shopping. The concerts done in the square are not great ( based on my experience)but do add a good vibe to the evening. Make sure you go up the bell tower while you are there! If you are a morning person run through the town early while it is quiet and you have it all to your self.

This place is pretty amazing and very unique. It’s crazy to think how old it is, how important it was, and how they’ve now built apartments on top of it where you see laundry hanging to dry. Also, it’s not just one building. It’s really a whole village. Obviously it’s cool to see a GoT location, so definitely check out the dungeons. But mostly prepare to spend a day exploring. You can shop, hear love music and get some coffee.
Katie Hallockjuil. 15, 2018
The most interesting place!!! So many small streets and the towers, cellar. Flower vines on the walls. This is a place to discover. Take your time, enjoy the Dalmatian food, drinks, on the way. There are a lot of restorants, cafes and ice cream places around. And if you are a Game of Thrones fanatic keep your eyes open, cause some places may seem out of the series and they totally are too.

Imposing walled town with a labyrinth of hidden features. The original Roman fortified settlement has been developed into a unique residential area with a mix of architecture from over the ages. You will discover a mix of traditional businesses, modern shops, artisan foods and trendy bars. It is easy to get lost in the multi level streets and discover something new each time you visit.

To have a better idea of the structures as they were meant to be, make sure to visit the structures in the "basement".
