Go for the great time with friends and family. Not so much for the actual fish. We had 4 guys and ended up with a total of 6 fish that were big enough to keep between us all. Nice guys running it though and I got to spend some quality time with friends and family. Good memory overall.
My brother and I went on the Flying Hub 2 yesterday for the 12 hr deep drop. It was my first time. Captain Anthony and Rich were very kind and forgiving of my rookie mistakes. Rich stood by me, coaching my technique as I reeled up my fish. Turned out to be the catch of the day. A 34 inch gag. Not bad for the only girl on the boat. All in all, we caught 2 grouper, 3 red snapper and 2 porgies (spelling?). Oh yeah, and 1 Moray eel. We had our fish cleaned and my family had some for dinner tonight. I absolutely cannot wait to go on another excursion. We had a storm on the way out which just added to the adventure. Captain Anthony kept the boat moving to keep us on fish. Rich did a phenomenal job keeping everyone's lines untangled. We fished in depths of 180-250 ft deep.
As usual, another great time fishing! This time with Capt Joe and Deck hands Dusty and Geno on the 5hr half day trip. The Capt put us right on the fish and the deck hands were very helpful in keeping our lines in the water. I've been fishing with Hubbard's for 6 yrs now on the 5 hour half day, 10 hour full day and even the private charter with 9 of my family members and have caught plenty of fish big and small Every time. Every time has been a great experience from booking with Angela on the private charter and others to the Captain's and Deck hands with fishing to the cleaning of the fish. Everyone on staff is very friendly and helpful. I've also been out with other charters in which there was no comparison. I recommend Hubbard's every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Hoping to book my 39 hour trip next Spring. Hop on board everybody!
Went out on the Dolphin watch with Captain Dave on Friday and he was awesome!! Both him and the lady that was helping him, whose name has escaped me, were both very informative and really really good with my kids!!! The Mrs and I couldn't have been happier with everything and would highly recommend the Dolphin watch or anything else for that matter at Hubbards. Every member of the staff did an absolutely sensational job!!!
FOR THE MONEY - BEST THING TO DO IN TAMPA AREA! We were looking for a private charter and then stumbled upon this experience. Yes, it is a shared boat with 20+ people... yes you don't have a skipper all to yourself, BUT they do a great job! After we realized how it all worked it was easy and fun. I would go again given the opportunity.
We do a deep sea party fishing trip each time we visit Florida. We had not been out on Hubbard for a few years. We have always taken care of the crew and guys cleaning fish, tip wise. I felt like this outfit put way too much emphasis on tipping, turn off. Fine to remind people, but telling them how much to tip was annoying. I had a ten out to give the guy cleaning my 6 fish and he turned around and said that is 2 dollars. I was annoyed enough by his tone, I found 2 dollars instead and handed it to him. This wasn't one of our more plentiful trips, but some trips go that way. *They expect $10 tip per person, tip for the galley worker and $1 for every 3 fish cleaned. I think they would make more tip wise if they laid off, did there job and made sure everyone was having fun.
I have had the pleasure of discovering the Marina and the Hubbard family and their employees recently and if I could give 50 stars that's what I would give them. I meet a lot of people and I have to say that the people here at the marina including Dylan Hubbard among the most wonderful people I have ever met. Their hospitality, their warm and genuine nature, and their very pleasant personalities place them very high up in the ranks of human beings. It is very easy to be nice and they have made it into an art form. I would also like to add that when I see the charters come in from fishing I see the most amazing fish that they have caught out in the Gulf of Mexico. The fishermen always have great big smiles on their faces when they return from fishing! Thank you Hubbard's Marina!!! 😎
Great dolphin/sunset cruise! Scenic boat tour of Madeira/Redington Beach, the bay and into the Gulf. Lots of dolphins. Free draft beer and wine on the sunset cruise. Great music and an entertaining staff aboard the boat. Snacks are cheap! ($1). Lots of great opportunities for some awesome cellphone snaps. I do this one every year I'm in Florida!
Simply the worst head boat experience the west coast of Fl has to offer. I cannot stress enough that this is a tourist attraction and not a fishing boat. The owners/ captains lie saying that the coast gaurd requires them to search passenger's coolers for alcohol- yet they sell alcohol on board and cannot provide a statute # for this "law" and every other boat in Fl lets you bring your own booze; it is simply a tacky ploy to fleece the passengers for every dime possible. The boat is run slow, 7-8 knots with a tailwind and flat seas to conserve fuel and waste your bottom time. Anchor is seldom deployed and 90% of your time will be spent drifting over sand where there are no grouper; ask any Fl fisherman other than these crooks and they will tell you anchoring on a GPS # is absolutely critical to put grouper in the box! You will be treated like a child by a disrespectful, lying crew from the moment you buy your ticket. Look else where if you want to fish for ANYTHING other than grunts and squirrel fish. This boat sucks.
Loved loved loved he sunset cruise. The free beer and wine was awesome, the scenery was beautiful. Dolphins were all around the boat. Seeing the sunset on the gulf from the water was beautiful. The crew made the trip so much fun!!
Captain Zip took our group to Shell Key for the afternoon. Half of our group got lost and showed up over a half hour late. They took us around on the boat while they got another group and then made an extra trip to accommodate ours. They were super personable and told us some cool facts about the area. They also provided us with free shell bags. Our lost group members ended up at the wrong ferry to shell key and they were beyond rude and were more money. We're extremely happy with our trip and would use them again in a heart beat!
Great fishing trip..Great people...the boat crew were awesome and took excellent care of everyone and made sure everything went smoothly. The boat was clean and well organized. 5 in our party and we caught fish and the crew were quick to help and make sure you were catching. If the bite got slow you moved to a better spot. We had our catch cleaned and cooked at the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant...BEST we have ever had..hands down..make sure to order Cajun fried. Overall experience was top points in all areas and I would highly recommend this outfit for a family outing. We will definitely be returning and do this fishing trip again.
