Large zoo reachable by a short bus journey from the town centre. Range of animals including elephants and birds of prey. Special focus on wild goat and sheep species and recently opened large polar bear enclosure. Good value for money.
Did you know that they have the world's biggest mountain goat and mountain sheep collection? Also, they have a centre for conservation and captive breeding of the European mink, which is one of the most endangered carnivores in the world. Tallinn Zoo is huge, so be prepared for walking! The variety of animals is great - they have more than 7700 specimens belonging to almost 600 species or subspecies. Children's zoo is open every day around the year. If you get tired and hungry you can go to a picnic area or buy something from cafeteria. Don't be suprised that some parts of the zoo look really old and sad. The zoo was founded in 1939 and they had to cope with temporary buildings adapted from old military warehouse. They are always building or reconstructing something, so it will only get better. They just opened new polarium for the polar bear!
Went in the dead of winter, but paid only 5 eur. for entrance! Bigger than I expected, and made for a fun afternoon.
Tallinn Zoo is almost next door, so it's always nice hearing the lion roar in summer. The zoo is a nice place to visit on every season. Different animals are actice on different times, so it's nice to see them minding their business. A new Polarium was recently opened there, so you can watch what polar bears do!
Plenty of walking to fill the day, can see animals, big and small, but the conditions the animals are in could be better. Fortunately they are working on it, even though it's an never-ending process. Can rent a cart to drop kinds in if one feels that they would become tired (and they will).
The zoo is average size with a typical collection. Their highlight is the polar bear family which seems to be very happy in their cage. The cage is well designed so we can observe the animal’s activities very up close and also from underwater. The rest of the zoo is pretty tired around the corner but animals seem to be well taken care of. There are also forest which is very beautiful in spring, zip line adventure, recreational park, picnic area, kids center, cafeteria.
A small zoo but most animals were not.visible there wasn't much interaction or English seem like it is for the locals. Animals also didn't look too well kept as hair was matted or pulled out I guess for them to make beds to stay warm. Pens and especially pools and aquariums were unclean . Didn't make me feel too good visiting wasn't very satisfied .
Never again Maps are not really helpful, because the most ways are blocked Large area, but only a few interesting animals Cages look not very friendly
This zoo have been always interesting. Animals all are special. Lots of sightseeing.
Lots of animals, vast territory. Most animals live in good conditions, but some still need improvement.
We enjoyed our visit today. The polar bear and elephant enclosures are brilliant. Many of the other exhibits are good. As British visitors we would have welcomed more consistent provision of English translations. We enjoyed the extensive walks through pleasant grounds - some visitors might find the distances to be walked too much. But overall very good value and plenty to interest all ages.
Love the new Polar Bear World - if you're lucky, you will see the bears close up through the glass. I hope the renovate the other parts of the zoo soon as well as most of it is quite dated, but I did like the Elephant House as well. Many indoor exhibits are closed on Mondays.
Great value for money! Lots of exotic animals. Also really nice to see they was in good condition and the has mostly enough space. Beats Helsinki Zoo 6-0.
My absolutely favourite place to hang out in the summer. Lots of cafes and picnic spots. And don't forget the animals. The animals in Tallinn zoo are all ealthy and happy and it's all very educational.. And the childrens zoo is also great if you have kids.
