La catedral de la Santísima Trinidad de Tiflis (en georgiano, თბილისის წმინდა სამების საკათედრო ტაძარი Tbilisis ts'minda samebis sak'atedro t'adzari), comúnmente conocida como Sameba (სამება), es la principal catedral de la Iglesia ortodoxa y apostólica georgiana, ubicada en Tiflis, la capital de Georgia. Construida entre 1995 y 2004, es la tercera catedral ortodoxa más alta del mundo. Sameba es una síntesis de los estilos tradicionales dominantes en la arquitectura religiosa georgiana en las diversas etapas de la historia y posee algunos matices bizantinos.
La idea de construir una nueva catedral para conmemorar los 1.500 años de autocefalía de la Iglesia ortodoxa de Georgia y los 2.000 años desde el nacimiento de Jesús, surgió ya en 1989. En mayo de ese mismo año se anunció un concurso internacional para el proyecto de la construcción de la catedral, que comenzó el 23 de noviembre de 1995, y nueve años después fue consagrada por el patriarca de la iglesia ortodoxa georgiana, el Catolicós Patriarca de toda Georgia Elías II y los representantes de alto rango de las demás Iglesias ortodoxas del mundo. A la ceremonia también asistieron líderes de otras comunidades religiosas y confesionales en Georgia, así como líderes políticos. La catedral está construida, al menos en parte,[1][2] en terrenos que incluían lo que había sido un antiguo cementerio armenio llamado Khojavank.[3][4][5][6][7] El cementerio tuvo una vez una iglesia armenia, destruida durante el período soviético por órdenes de Lavrenti Beria. La mayoría de las lápidas y monumentos del cementerio también fueron destruidos, y el cementerio se convirtió en un parque recreativo. Sin embargo, el cementerio todavía contenía muchas de sus tumbas cuando comenzó la construcción de la catedral de Sameba.[8] Según un autor, el cementerio fue tratado con «escandalosa falta de respeto",[4] con huesos y lápidas que aparecieron dispersos por todo el sitio de la construcción.[6][9]

Beautiful cathedral with outstanding views of the city and surrounding area. This is an active church and regularly has services. It is a popular destination and can get crowded. There is a dress code to enter the cathedral. No mini skirts, women must cover their heads, etc.

One of the biggest church in Tbilisi. It has good atmosphere and good view to the city. Best place to be.. Nice people..excellent food... No words can ever describe how pampered we were during the whole trip! Thank you so much to OceanAir Travels... we had a blast!!!

Nice. No place to sit and contemplate God but beautiful. I wish I could have seen the walls fully decorated.

What a beautiful place. It was truly awe inspiring walking through the halls with the echo's of beautiful hymns. Sensationally stimulating. I'm not a religious person, but I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the short experience.

Tbilisi or perhaps whole of Georgia is full of churches. You can pretty much find one church in every area if not couple of them close to each other and then you have one church that stand out and stand tall above all. This Trinity church is certainly the one. It’s a massive structure and very well kept from inside out. We happened to be there when there was some sort of prayers being sung. That made the entire experience even better. It also has some kind of bloody history attached to it. We were informed that the king of that time killed all the labour and engineers so nothing of this sort can be built again. Anyway, it was worth the visit for its history and structure.

Very peaceful and spiritual place to be. Our tour guide told us many interesting pieces of information about signicianf depictions of scenes from the Bible in the church. The presence of some hidden spirit inside you almost seems to be real. Well, it’s real, you just have to see it.

It was a very historical and magnificent place. I'd suggest you visit this place. One of the places you should definitely see in Tiflis. There are several other churches beside it and there is a very beautiful environment. Men are aware that they can not go in with shorts

One of the highest orthodox cathedral in the world is Trinity from Tbilisi. Worked in stone, with impressive architecture and many underground levels, each one having direct gate to the garden organized in terraces, will satisfy you eyes. Dear tourist, put in your plan to visit that monument and you will not regret.
