Great place to get a headache between Antifascist War, Communist Terror and Mother Teresa exhibits, note that this National History Museum is itself a product of Hoxha’s regime....

Great place for a historic view on Albanian history. Unfortionately half of the info signs are in Albanian only, which leaves one with only half of the story. You can easily spend two hours here. Bring water on sunny days.

The museum exhibit started with very good and detailed enough explanations of the early history of Albanian civilization in English. However starting from the late middle ages, the English explanations were almost non-existence. Those who only read English will most probably browse through late-middle ages, renaissance and independence pavilion very quickly. Was looking forward to see more of Albania's traditional and cultural exhibit, but unfortunately very minimal was shown. Having said that, it is still an interesting visit, and alot to see. And for 200Lek, it is very value for money. Toilet is only available at the entrance (also the same as the exit area). Very cold in some areas.

The exhibit has good translations, although as it gets to the middle ages of Albanian civilization, the English translations are almost non-existent, making it hard for a secondary language speaker like me to read it, although I can, with struggle, I know many others have an extremely hard time understanding the middle ages. But, besides the translation issues, the other parts of history are very well described in it's dual languages, and definitely is a must visit for all those visiting Tirane.

While it could be better this still remains one of the best museums in Albania. The museum walks you through the history of Albania from prehistoric times until the fall of communism. One item that could be changed is the inclusion of the relics of saints and the iconostasis from and Orthodox Church on the outskirts of Elbasan that were confiscated by the communist government when religion was outlawed. These items should be returned to their rightful caretaker. The Church.

What a gem! This is a wonderful museum with very interesting and beautiful work. No abstract paintings, just realistic paintings of the history of Albania. Some propaganda and some depictions of normal Albanian life. I did not know any of the artists, but they can surely measure with international painters from the same period 1880-1970. It was very quiet in the museum. The entrance does not look to be open and the doors have mirrors, not very welcoming. But behind the doors is an unexpected wealth of nice art pieces.

It's definitely worth to visit. A whole history of this wonderful country. This sword and helmet is the original of Iskender Bey.

On 28 October 1981 the National History Museum was inaugurated. For the establishment of this museum, a team with the best specialists of the country, of the fields of history, linguistics, archeology, ethnography, cartography, architecture and art was gathered. For this museum was worked organized, according to the respective sections, for almost 3 years, until its opening. The group was headed by distinguished personalities like, Alex Buda, Stefanaq Pollo, Selami Pulaha, Skënder Anamali, Emin Riza, Burhan Çiraku, Kleanthi Dedi, Iljaz Goga, Rrok Zojzi, Abaz Dojaka, Ramadan Sokoli, Enver Faja, Nina Shehu, Vilson Kilica, Fatmir Haxhiu, Myrteza Fushekati, Met Deliu, Aleksander Meksi and others. National historical museums are among the most important conductors of the official interpretation of a country's history, along with the national education system. They play an important role in protecting identity for the nation as well as for escorting this self-image to visitors and the outside world. But museums differ from what the story writes, because for a museum the language of expression are museum objects exhibited, coupled with the data for them. The National History Museum is the largest museum institution in Albania and one of the most important. The National History Museum building has a total area of 27,000 m2 and has an exposure area of 18,000 m2 and an overall volume of 81,000 m3. There are about 5000 objects in the museum's premises, which belong to a relatively long period of time beginning in the IV century BC and until the second half of the 20th century. The museum is conceived so that the presentation is done through eight pavilions. Pavian of the Antiquity Pavian of the Middle Ages Pavijon of the National Renaissance Pavision of Independence Pavijoni i ikone Pavijon of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War Pavijon of Communist Terror Pavijon of Mother Teresa

It's good resource for someone who pretend and needs to better know the main history of Albanian people. Assistance isn't at required standards, and for a foreigner it should find a proper guide, otherwise, it would be a wasted time

Nice museum covering the history of Albania from the pre-Roman period to the 20th Century, well-worth visiting. Understand though that English translation of museum displays is inomplete and inconsistent, if you plan on visiting on your own.

Nice museum with an extensive amount of impressive historical artifacts ranging from Greek to Roman, Albanian and Communism. If you are a history buff you will enjoy it but the English translations might leave you longing for more info. The exhibits are nicely displayed but they are not interactive in any manner. My kids were certainly bored but it is a nice museum. It cost 200 LEK each for admission.

What an excellent exhibition of Balkan human history. Many artefacts are present dating from the stone age through to the modern era. The fascist occupation of the Second World War is particularly interesting and well presented. The museum is expansive, but does lack English interpretations in places. The exhibits more than make up for it.

Good place to spend 1 hour. The place is very large, but it would be much better if they add English translation to describe all the items. The place was hot. The AC was not on.
