Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery (千鳥ケ淵戦没者墓苑, Chidorigafuchi Senbotsusha Boen) is a national Japanese cemetery and memorial for 352,297 unidentified war dead of the Second World War, located near the inner moat of the Imperial Palace and Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, Japan.
The recovery of remains from the Pacific War presented an unprecedented problem for the Japanese government, as some soldiers could not be identified due to harsh battlefield conditions, and the families of others had perished in the extensive air raids on Japan and atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 1952, the recovery committee began storing human remains in the offices of the Ministry of Welfare while it sought a more permanent structure to house and honor the dead. In 1953 the Cabinet of the Prime Minister ordered a "tomb of the unknown soldier" constructed, the site was purchased in 1956, and it was completed in March 1959. It is a public institution and is infrequently visited by the Emperor and Prime Minister.

It gets amazing during Sakura season. However I don't recommend is the train to get there because the station is insanely crowded. Lines to get it and get out. Take a taxi from Tokyo station. Really nothing to do after spring is over.

Lovely place to see the cherry blossoms ! Not super crowded, calm, and really beautiful. The presence of the water pound and the proximity of the imperial gardens and palace make this place very peaceful. You can also take a small boat and navigate a bit on the water while watching the Sakuras. My recommendation for cherry blossom seeing !

Extremely beautiful place to visit especially during cherry blossom 🌸 season. This is part of the Imperial gardens. Wonderful place for a good 30-60 minutes’ slow walk or rent a boat to enhance the Hanami (Sakura viewing) experience. The light-up (till 10PM) is another must-see magnificent scenery. Highly recommended!!

One of the best location to see Sakura. During the peak time one can spend whole day to see the beauty. But best time would be around 4:30 to 8 :00 PM because from around 4:30 you can see Sakura in sunlight but after 6:00 or may be 6:30 this place have light up and that is another level of beauty.

Best cherry blossom spot in Tokyo. Yes, it may be crowded but with the right patience you can find great spots to enjoy this wonderful view. Walking around the garden is amazing. To the take a boat you'll have to wait pretty long if you don't arrive early.

It's beautiful if you can catch the cherry blossoms, but will also be very crowded. Even without cherry blossoms it's a beautiful area and great for walking around if you enjoy gardens. You can also around to the castle proper for some less crowded gardens.

Beautiful in the spring for hanami. There's a moat and rental of boats (row & paddle) for 30 min- 2 hours. When it's cherry blossoms season, the line can take 40 min to an hour long and the vending machine will be out of drinks. So prepare.

Chidorigafuchi promenade is about 700 meters in total length. It starts from Imperial Palace, and extending until Yasukuni Jinja in Kudanshita. The road also goes near a river and boat ride in Chidorigafuchi is more enjoyable espesially during cherry blossom season. You can take a leisurely boat ride with your family or friends. There are about 250 cherry trees along the whole road. The cherry blossom over the heads of people walking along the road would be like walking in the cherry blossoms tunnel. It is one of the famous spots for its popularly known cherry blossoms viewing spot. More than 1 million people visit here from all over Japan during the cherry blossom viewing season acknowledges the beauty of this place. But please note it would also be crowded in cherry blossom season.
