I tried to get tickets multiple times at Lawson and it's always sold out. Trick is to get it at 10am on the 10th of the month when the ticket sales open (unless you're abroad). Definitely a worthwhile experience. Go earlier in the day so you have more time. I loved the interactive exhibit and the short film in the theater. The museum is smaller than I thought

A destination Ghibli fans. Getting tickets and getting to the museum takes some extra effort - fans will find it worth it. We ordered tickets through a tour group online so we could bus to the site. Meeting at a hotel in the city was convenient. No photos allowed inside once you arrive - but you wouldn't possibly have time because you'd want shots of everything. Virtually every inch of this place has some beautiful little detail. Seeing an exclusive film, admiring Miyazaki's workspace, and appreciating the craftsmanship and creativity in each exhibit was a delight for us three adults. Kids were enthralled all around us as well. The building itself is a work of art and ascending the rooftop is amazing. We wished tours lasted longer (so many guests, they keep a super tight schedule) and it was quite crowded, but only uncomfortable in the gift shop. T-shirts were $$$ everywhere we went in Japan and particularly here - bummer. We left very happy with our visit and reasonably priced alternative souvenirs.

Magical. Please. I beg you. Bring your kids here This place teaches the magic of animation. Truly. Deeply. Madly. They request patrons to not take any pictures, and I respected it because it is truly a place to experience in person. From walking in to leaving the place, it's all a well made and gorgeous place. If you're into any of Miyazaki's films, you'll love it. If you think of it, in some ways it isn't special. The cafe food isn't great. The location is a little smaller than I thought. There isn't anything particularly mind blowing. It's far from the city. And the cat bus is only for kids. But if you think of it like you used to think of things when you were a kid it's amazing. The cafe food isn't "foodie" level but it's cute and themed and satisfying. The location is far, but who cares when you're young. You're on an adventure. The building looks bigger when you're small too and the cat bus is fair game. This place is great for kids. The reason why I loved it was because from the moment I saw the Zoetrope, I was reminded of my childhood and I felt, literally, like a child. I must have had the goofiest smile on. Highly recommended.

Studio Ghibli is incredibly representative of Japan. I would highly recommend spending sometime getting to know it’s films and then visiting this gem. About a 10-15 min walk from Mitake station, it’s a great neighborhood to explore all on its own. You purchase your ¥1000 ticket from a Lawson (only) the month before. Imperative that you get there on the first as the tickets sell out fast. You HAVE to pre-purchase as they do not sell them at the museum. No pictures inside the museum. Seems like a bummer at first but that rule is there to protect the films and the atmosphere. Makes sense once you think of it for a bit. There is a cafe there that serves the basics like curry and omelette rice. A bit pricey for what you get but you are certainly there for the atmosphere. My wife and I grabbed sandwiches at a Family Mart and then had a snack and a couple of beers in the museum. All in all it’s an absolutely wonderful museum. Frankly the best word is “moving!”

We beat the super long line queuing up for entry by a mere 10 minutes. The museum is not large and because of its popularity, it can be quite tight in space and it can feel very cluttered. The content of the museum however, will allow you new appreciation for the research and thought process the animators do for a single scene. Absolutely lovely place - no photos allowed for inside the museum!

YOU MUST BOOK TICKETS IN ADVANCE! Only 10,000 yen per person. Super fun for kids and adults alike! Ghilbi was a whimsical and fun experience! Not being overly familiar with his work, we went not really knowing what to expect! We were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed walking around and through all the nooks and crannies of this place. There was a short film inside a beautiful theatre room that ran on repeat through out our visit, a few permanent galleries and one special exhibit. It was cool to see how animation evolved and how their technology changed through out the years! A few interactive elements as well! The line up to get into the cafe to have lunch was super long, so we settled for a hot dog and soup at the snack bar just beside the cafe - both quite tasty! It was pretty busy inside despite the ticket entry times being staggered but it wasn’t too bad. Definitely a fun way to spend a few hours even if you haven’t seen a film! A more recent mention from Tiff was “The Red Turtle” - awesome film!

Great place if you are a fan of the animation. Giant house with areas that are very unique. You have to catch the bus from the train station to get here which is easy. You should all know that you cannot take pictures inside. I only gave it a four star because the building is actually not that big. The good part is they let you watch this short film clip which is exclusive to the museum. Remember to buy tickets in advance!

Fantastic museum that celebrates the history of Studio Ghibli! Since your not allowed to take photos inside you most definitely have to go and see it all in person and enjoy what has to be the most creative and most relaxing museum I have personally ever visited. By visiting you will also get a chance to see an exclusive film that can only be viewed there, so you have another fantastic insentive with that too! It's very popular so make sure to book very far in advance so you don't miss out on ticket sales. And overall, enjoy the magic that is Studio Ghibli!!

I feel lucky to have gotten a ticket in time! In case you’re interested in visiting be sure to buy a ticket in advance. Either through JTB website or Lawson’s. The different sites sell them at different times so make sure you do your research. As for the museum it’s かわいいです^_^!!! the short film was amazing! The different rooms were great as was the shopping.

I am a huge Ghibli fan and this museum was literally my imagination reincarnated! Its so magical and beautiful, with so much detail and attention put in place to ensure the whole mansion looks like it came alive from one of the animations! My friend who hadnt seen a single Ghibli film also enjoyed it heaps. Please do yourself (and especially your kids) a favour and visit the museum. I would definitely come back!

Amazing place! Fun AND fascinating! You can’t take any pictures inside ( though you can in the outside areas) so it makes you actually take real notice of what is there, which once you get over the urge to take photos, is really nice. Recommend for anyone who loves Ghibli, and to be honest, even for those who haven’t really seen any / much Ghibli stuff. You can buy some food and gifts inside, and you get a showing of something unique and Ghibli that not many other people will see. The park surrounding it is nice too. You only need 2-3 hours to have a good look around, and it really isn’t expensive. Though tickets MUST be booked in advance and go pretty quick. So if you are heading to Tokyo, research this sooner rather than later!

The Ghibli Museum is a magical place and a must see if you're a fan of the films! The fact that photography is not permitted inside allows you to be drawn into the Ghibli world and there is plenty to do for adults as well as children. Sitting in the adult sized cat bus and seeing loads of breathtaking original drawings and an exclusive short film, included in the ticket price, were definite highlights! Make sure you save enough time for the outdoor cafes when it's sunny outside which offer, among many things, craft beers which are unique to the museum. Don't worry, they have plenty of heat lamps in winter. Finally, the gift shop is a sight to behold and is not overly priced, as some museum gift shops tend to be. Overall, a great day out and I would definitely return again on my next trip to Japan!

Add another star because this museum is awesome and genius inside. I really can feel how the team love their creation, and how they work together to make every single movie. Photograph is not allowed inside. But it's okay, because you can really enjoy it. To get here you can take Ghibli bus outside Mitaka station. Have fun!

Please note that you are not allowed to take pictures inside the museum. For people who are big fans of Studio Ghibli this is a must see. This place is truly magical even down to the tickets. Once you enter you receive a little cut of film from one of their movies which makes a good keepsake! You get to see the world of animation in such an interesting way. There is even a short animation shown that has never been seen before
Vanessa Sanchezиюль 10, 2018
Great experience for kids and adults alike. They start off the tour with an exclusive movie to the Museum which is not shown elsewhere in the world. The rest of the museum contains 3 exhibition halls, 2 of which are permanent exhibitions, and one annual special. The special exhibition when I was there was an exhibition of food in the Ghibli films. You can really see the effort and thought behind the animation process, and how they try to make it as realistic and believable as possible. No English explanations were available though. For Ghibli fans, the shop and library are nice places to spend some of that hard-earned cash.

This was fun but I guess we expected magical. The exhibition itself was great but the whole place was a bit small. Really looking forward to the theme park coming soon as that might be more encompassing. The crowds as well took us out of getting lost in the place. There were however, some wonderful moments and we both still love the creativity coming out of Studio Ghibli.
