The Malta National Aquarium (Akkwarju Nazzjonali ta' Malta in Maltese) is the largest aquarium in the Maltese Islands.
It is located in Qawra, in the northern part of the island of Malta, and it hosts more than 175 different species of various animals, including fish, mollusca, reptiles and insects.
Paid a little bit extra for a private tour during feeding time... best.choice.Ever! The woman who took the tour was vibrant and had us all loving her job even more. She made it exciting and always had information to share with us. I've been to many aquariums over the years, but this was the first time I've had a fun experience.

It's a small aquarium but with nice variations of fishes. The best part of it was the "behind the scenes" tour. We got an explanation about how they keep the aquarium maintained, the efforts to not let the sharks being extinct and more important things. Very nice.

We expected more from a national aquarium. Quite few animal species, very poor info about each tank (just the tablets, some not working), we "participated" to one of the events (reptile feeding or evolution, still not sure) but it consisted of a guy with some handwritten notes, clearly far from being an expert of the subject. It took us less than 45 minutes to see it all even stopping and reading the tank descriptions. Mainly fish species, very few crustaceans, just two small tanks of jellyfish (no starfishes or anemones at all). No interactive activities for kids. There's so much more they could do to improve. I've seen much better. It could just be a nice walk if free.

This is a great place to visit. Take the children and enjoy learning about all sorts fish. Here you can discover the wonders of the sea. Blue Planet lovers will enjoy this place. Situated on the sea front, it is in an ideal location to walk to. For those really interested in fish and sea life, this place is a must. Kids will love visiting too.

It is relatively small aquarium. Informations are provided on tablets which is nice. Good place for kids but nothing much to see. We finished whole aquarium plus food in 2 hrs. I really like the location. 13.5 euro for adults and kids below 3 yrs are free.

Great variety of marine & fresh water fish, plus a small section with reptiles & amphibians. 2 members of staff provided a very insightful talk during our walk through the reptile section. It's not a huge aquarium but still plenty to enjoy. Overall it was a great experience!

Good place. A good medium size aquariaum. Entry price is a little expensive but it had a good variety of fish and a really good walk through tunnel. We didn't rush and the experience took about 90 minutes. A big downside is you pay for the parking and it is REALLY expensive. So I strongly advise parking for free on a side street and walking a few minutes. Worth a visit.

It was a great place to visit and did the full tour with a guide of the research area behind the scenes. Its very worth while. Watched the guide pet the sharks. Some of the fish have names, and are friends with other fish. Learnt about the research into breading sharks as well. Totally unexpected and the best Aquarium I’ve been to. Great restaurant upstairs, with sea view of course.

A great outing for all the family. Plenty of exhibits to explore. There is a very cute marine themed playground for the little ones just outside the museum. A nice caffe inside where one can choose to dine in or outside to a great view. Ample parking space available.

There is a big variation of different fish. You can get a tour and there are movies you could watch to learn more about a certain category of fish. There is also a restaurant and a kids play park (all fish themed). This is a great place to enjoy the day with kids.

Worth of visit for families! We were here with our 3yrs and 6months old children and the aquarium was really nice. There were a lot of fishes and other animals for all ages to see. After the visit we were on the playground just beside of the aquarium that was awesome. This was the second one that we found during our one week stay in Malta. Recommended for everyone.

Decent aquarium with lots of different fish and more importantly rays. I love rays! The only thing that ruined it for me was how the Leopard Geckos are kept. I don't know the proper husbandry for the other animals, but I do for Leopard Geckos. They shouldn't be kept on loose substrate, because it can cause impaction (look it up), or with other geckos in the tanks, because they are solitary animals and will eventually kill each other. With this in mind, I am not convinced that all of the other animals are kept in the correct environments, but like I say I don't know. If the geckos were kept correctly it would have been a 4 for me.

The Aquarium is awesome with so many aqua creatures. For families this is a must go. The location of this aquarium is easily approachable from the city centre. Food stalls have authentic flavours right next to the beach. The beach, aquarium and the food stalls with amazing views are within a few steps walk away. Must see for kids!

Very nice aquarium! Lots of different types of fish and sea animals. Especially the "under water tunnel" is very impressive! Next to every tank and bassin is a screen with information, you can swipe and search for everything you want to know. This makes it fun! The only downside is the price; for 14 euro per person I would think that you can at least spend half a day at the aquarium. But you can see it all in 1,5 - 2 hours, it's not that big.
Margreet van VeluwJun 25, 2018
The aquarium has an extremely broad collection of both fish and reptiles. The exhibits feature nice decoration and there are tablets all around that show what fish they have and where they can be found. Great place to come with children. Also, if you like, they have a backstage tour (of which I didn't get the chance to do it) but if I were you I would do it. Great place and the staff is really friendly.

A good place to take the kids. Only small so best to try to go when it is quiet. Gift shop and restaurant inside, food is ok. For special occasions and public holidays there are crafts and events for the kids. A lot of the car clubs will meet up on Sundays and public holidays and put their vintage cars on display for the day.
