I attended Carol Sawyers most prolific Show where she has created Natalie Br...a purely fictional character. Using photography self portraits and short films to create an interdisciplinary artist. Carol is an interdisciplinary artist as she composes and sings and performs and makes photographs and films as well as integrating her so very curious outlook. I think i may even have a photo as I saw these works several times

Never fails to marvel. Four floors to explore and experience many forms of art, either national or international. Have been there 3 times, and have always had a wonderful time. Tuesdays you get to enter by donation, so expect a long line if the day is nice. Perfect choice for rainy days.

Wonderful artistic experiences. The go to spot for wonderful traditional and modern arts. The gallery is nice and calm to walk around in. Lots of people standing in front of pieces of art work and proceeding to "tilt" their heads a bit. Recently, the Murakami exhibition was superb and it certainly did wonders to wet my artistic pallet.

A wonderful gallery with exhibits that seldom disappoint. Check out their website if you want to see what's going on at any given time, but definitely give it a go regardless. Try out the cafe for a hidden gem patio in the summer, and to enhance your pre-gallery game with a few glasses of wine. Recommended!

The floors that were open were wonderful to view. Not overwhelmingly large, like some art galleries. It is just the right size for an afternoon visit.

Tuesday evening from 5pm to closing is donation night. Pay what you can to see international art works! It is more crowded than at other times, so if you can afford to pay full price, you can enjoy quieter contemplation. However, this is a wonderful program to allow lower income individuals an opportunity to enjoy excellent artwork. Check out the special events at the art gallery too. I have heard some wonderful concerts there. Looking forward to the new, improved art gallery. Donate if you can. The staff and curators are doing a wonderful job in the heritage building. I hope they are able to keep donation night going in the new facility.

I love the art gallery. The building itself is gorgeous and the curating of exhibits strong. It is a pleasure to visit: spacious, a delicious cafeteria and the best open outdoor patio in the city centre. Gift shop and great children's activities on Sundays. It is a jewel.

Fantastic gallery. Many great modern/contemporary pieces. Really great Murakami exhibit the way it was integrated into the exterior and central staircase. Great food at cafe for reasonable prices. The gift shop is a bit small but decent.

A world class Art Gallery with exceptional activities for kids here. We have a membership here and the main reason is that almost every Sunday they offer fabulous and good quality art classes in which all children are welcome (and adults can participate as well) we went on Sunday and got to make Japanese inspired Murakami Collages with an exceptional amount of supplies, equipment and materials. Instead of messing up your own house, go do it in style at the Art Gallery! Fabulous for rainy days :)

I went to the Murakami exhibit and it was really amazing to see his work in person. It is unbelievable that his pieces were painted. They almost looked like prints. The art gallery always brings in the best of the best exhibitions. It is always a great place to check out when you want something different to do in the city. The building it self is historic and well maintained. A great place to take photos inside and out! I would definitely recommend checking the Vancouver Art Gallery especially on Tuesdays when admission is by donation.

It's an art gallery... So you either love it or hate it. To be honest, it's best to plan your trip when you see an exhibit you might be interested in. Merchandise is extremely overpriced ... Pins are around $30. A sticker is $7.00. Theme parks like Disneyland are cheaper by a wide margin! Tickets are expensive too, but there are deals available certain days of the week, so it's worth it to plan your outing in advance. Sometimes Costco also has discount exhibit tickets. Too expensive for a family outing though, really only for art connoisseurs. Not a lot of interactive elements for kids. Very much a traditional art gallery.

Have been here once with a friend. It was such a memorable experience. For those who are very passionate about art, I'd recommend spending at least 3 hours to explore :) They have very detailed description for every piece of art, along with some documentary films in dedicated theatres. Friendly staffs who are willing to guide you :) I forgot my student ID and I showed the staff my online student account to get the student discount, and she was totally okay with it! The one thing that could have made my experience better was the item-check lady. She had a very bad attitude when I asked her for my bag the second time (I forgot to grab my money for the ticket). That attitude was inappropriate for a staff in a customer service oriented position, especially at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The Murakami exhibit is the best one I've seen in years. Modern art with a twist, so much fun looking at the colors and feeling the whimsy that these artists put into their work. Great weekend spent with friends, it was a little busy but still big enough space to move around. The employees are friendly and very much informed about the exhibit. Will definitely go back and see the next one.

I visited while they were repainting and transitioning exhibitions, so I didn't see the full potential. However, what I did see was impressive and I'd return again. The design, layout and flow of exhibits worked well. The use of multiple media types made several options much more personal and tangible. I loved the Emily Clark exhibition! The staff was great and they offer free bag/item check with entry.

Incredible and moving way to spend an afternoon. The exhibits were amazing of course, and the spaces they were presented in were very comforting. The interpretive staff was friendly and eager to give you more background, if you liked, or let you enjoy the work on your own. Be sure to budget lots of time! My friends and I had 3 hours before close and has to rush through the second exhibit and didn't get to see the third at all. Plan on 5 or 6 hours if you wanna take your time and see it all.

I have a membership which is a great deal for locals. I got three to four times a year to check out new exhibitions. Their recent exhibits have had a great sense scope of different artworks and time periods. Expect to spend 1-2 hours there. Tours are a great way to learn the context of where the art comes from, a valuable experience for those who want to learn more about art.
