Castell Henllys (Welsh, "castle of the old court") is an important archaeological site in north Pembrokeshire, Wales, on the A487 road between Newport and Cardigan, in the parish of Nevern.
The Iron Age hillfort has been the subject of an ongoing excavation for more than twenty years, accompanied by an exercise in reconstruction archaeology whereby experiments in prehistoric farming have been practised. Four roundhouses and a granary have been reconstructed on their original Iron Age foundations, some 2,000 years old, the only site in Britain where this has been done.

With my g/sons of 6 and 8. Staff were very supportive. Boys loved the woods. Climbed into a roundhouse they shouldnt. But after being asked to get out they interacted with staff and enjoyed the chance to explore.

Very disappointed especially for the price. On the leaflet and website there's various activities etc. I appreciate we went in April but there was nothing except 1 young lad doing his verbal speil. Therefore the price should have been reduced to reflect the lack of activities. As it is I wouldn't recommend going unless in high season

Great experience and loads of fun! Lovely staff also. Car park also big, and great for kids.

Fantastic for a couple hours exploration with a nice warm cafe at the end. Having visited many hill forts it was brilliant to see it truly brought to life with the reconstructed round houses with their smokey atmosphere in peaceful countryside. We were lucky that there was an event on and reenactors explained the life and industry of the time whilst the children played slingshot and walked bare feet on the sensory path. The cafe served quality food, although took a little longer than ideal when with young kids but ultimately worth the wait.

Love it, the attraction hasn't changed since I was a child, but they have a lovely coffee shop now that was much appreciated after getting soaked by the torrential rain!

Very interesting experience! Nice reconstruction of this ancient historic site. Down at the entrance you'll find a lovely coffee shop and souvenirs. Parking is free. Definitely worth a visit. Recommended alone or with all the family.

We spent the most amazing half day at Castell Henllys! So much to see and in glorious surroundings! The barefoot trail was great fun and only a little bit painful! My daughter and I made an oil lamp in the cheiftains hut and then we all helped to get the fire going in another hut! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and it was lovely to see them dressed in the appropriate clothing for the time periods they were enacting! The gentleman giving the talk on spears through the ages was brilliant and engaged the kids enthusiastically which they all loved! We loved our visit, thanks so much!

A great historical site with living exhibits. I would have enjoyed it more if there had not been such an uphill walk to the exhibits but this cannot be helped. Recommended for young children - I took my grandchildren. The 6 and 8 year olds loved it.

Absolutely loved Castell Henllys, the buildings have been lovingly restored to as accurate a representation as we can expect. The staff are all enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the time period. Thoroughly enjoyed by all!

A great place to step back in time. This iron age hill fort is fantastically built. You can wander around a village of roundhouses, and the experience continues inside each structure. The people who work there all wear the dress of the period, and if there is a school visit, they will even paint your face. The path leading up is pretty steep, but those who struggle can get a free ride up to the fort. A great day out if like me you love ancient history

Fantastic day out, and a great cafe. If you have children and pick your day correctly, they have events that all ages can get involved in and enjoy. Enjoy life. Bib S

A very exciting place! I'd heard mixed reviews but our experience was great! We got to go right in the roundhouse and it was fascinating hearing all about the history of the owner and the celts who would have lived there hundreds of years ago. Well worth a visit!

We did the Make A Bow Day... Chopping the basic shape was fairly easy, turning a long log into a usable bow is something else.. Making the bow string was rewarding although quite drawn out, literally.
