Great museum with sacred art and medieval relics, as well as the castle itself. A bit expensive, but one of the best attractions in the city. Should take one and a half to two hours to go through, and usually stays open until 19:00

Interesting museum portraying plenty of historical art works. The building is impressive with some interesting renovations made (for those who are architecturally interested). Unfortunately descriptions of works exhibited was minimal with only one card per language (hand held and generally shared around once the person has finished reading). I would recommend fitted descriptions and information attached to the walls in larger text to allow for more people to read at the same time. Otherwise it was a pleasant visit.

Well, after visiting museums throughout Italy, I wouldn't say this museum was the most interesting BUT what I enjoyed most was getting a chance to climb up to the castle wall sections with terrific views overlooking Verona's river and town. It is high up enough to experience serious vertigo while walking around the parapets. It's near a major bus stop. It is a delight walking around the castle's interiors (a great location for modeling -- I saw a photographer and model doing a shoot while I was there). Overall, the big plus is Verona itself -- as a tourist destination, my sense is that it tries harder than over-touristed cities such as Rome or Venice or Florence.

Excellent monument of medieval fortification of XIV century. Inside you are going to find wonderful museum with great collections of fine arts of XIII-XVII centuries. Visitors are allowed to take non commercial photo without flash light. Must see place at Verona.

You must visit and spend a few hour. It is the best place in day time at Verona for a traveller in my personal taste.

Outskirts of Verona city centre. Fantastic and very interesting. Has lots of bars and restaurants close by. Also open top scenic bus stops here

Just being there in that ancient structure provides you the feel of the old Verona. Listening to a knowledgeable Tour Guide gives you more bang per buck why you're there.

An architectural masterpiece by Carlo Scarpa, the Castelvecchio brings the ancient and the modern together in a well organized and documented exhibition space. Inside, enjoy the exquisite collection of art that includes masterpieces by Mantegna, Bellini, Veronese and Tintoretto, amongst others.

It is a good place to visit, and near there is a bridge where you can see a good panorama of the city and of the River Adda

The bridge is amazing and a great place to relax and take photos of the city. We choose to visit the museum as well. You are not allowed to bring bags and backpacks inside, but they have a locker. The museum was beautiful, it is located in the whole Castelvecchio. You get to go upstairs and have a great view of the city. We ended up being there for 2 hours. I recommend it! You also have a bathroom inside.

We only went in the Museum because we thought we could only access the Castelvecchio bridge from there. Little did we know the bridge is readily accessible from outside. The Museum was ok but it wasn't great, lots of paintings and religious figures. What I liked is it gave us access to some areas of the castle where we wouldn't have gone if we hadn't got the ticket. The ticket itself didn't cost that much and the museum wasn't crowded so I'd say its worth visiting still.

What I remember more than anything is the "Fado" music being played by the accordion player outside. The music followed me around the castle. Museum is built into the very deep castle walls. You get some good views of the town and river from the top of the walls.

Castelvecchio (Italian: "Old Castle") is a castle in Verona, northern Italy. It is the most important military construction of the Scaliger dynasty that ruled the city in the Middle Ages. The castle is powerful and compact in its size with very little decoration - one square compound built in red bricks, one of the most prominent examples of Gothic architecture of the age, with imposing M-shaped merlons running along the castle and bridge walls. It has seven towers, a superelevated keep (maschio) with four main buildings inside. The castle is surrounded by a ditch, now dry, which was once filled with waters from the nearby Adige. Castelvecchio is now home to the Castelvecchio Museum and the local officer's club which can be accessed through the left door on Corso Cavour. The castle stands on the probable location of a Roman fortress outside the Roman city. Lord Cangrande II della Scala had it built along with its bridge across the Adige River as a deterrent to his powerful neighbors such as Venice, the Gonzaga and the Sforza families. Construction was carried out between 1354 and 1376 (Cangrande died in 1359). The fortified bridge was intended to allow the seigniors to escape safely northwards to the Tyrol in the event of a rebellion or a coup d'état (the Scaligeri were allies of the Holy Roman Empire) and when they eventually lost their hold on Verona, its surviving members left Italy to found a German branch of the family. Later, during the Venetian domination, the bridge was further fortified to defend it with cannons. The castle was damaged by French troops during the Napoleonic Wars (1796-7), in retaliation to the Pasque Veronesi, when the local population staged a violent anti-French revolt. Napoleon had chosen to stay in Castelvecchio on his trips to Verona, but his widespread and arbitrary requisitions of citizens' and churches' property, the massive draft of male workers into the French army prompted the resistance that eventually drove out the invaders. The bridge was destroyed by the retreating German army in 1945 and rebuilt in 1949. Under the Austrians, Castelvecchio was turned into barracks. In 1923 the castle was restored, as well as in 1963-1965.

There is a lovely little roof garden by the clock tower I spent a lot of time in. Interesting paintings, many old with odd faces which are a good laugh. Interesting painting depicting the story of orpheus. I enjoyed this.

My favourite place in Verona . I spent almost 4 hours to see everything . The price it's worth to the things it offers, totally acceptable . You should go .
