The Machines of the Isle of Nantes (Les Machines de l'île) is an artistic, touristic and cultural project based in Nantes, France. In the old covered buildings of the former shipyards in Nantes that were at one time used for ship construction (les nefs), and later used as business sites, the Machines of the Isle are created by two artists, François Delarozière (of La Machine production company) and Pierre Orefice (of Manaus association). The projects aim to promote the city's image and tries to build an identity as a creative metropolis of dream and of fantasy. The site was opened to the public on 1 July 2007.

Absolutely amazing place, an absolute must visit if you're in the area. Make sure you spend at least an hour in the gallery to see all the amazing machines in operation.
Unusual attraction, several walking or moving machines. Really only any good if you can understand rapid French, as nothing is translated. Ride on the elephant is excellent though, in any language
Plenty of shops and gift shops near by. Free WiFi spots. Lovely place with open areas. Beautiful architecture and parks to walk down. You also get to ride the machines around Nantes - different types of machines. There is so much to see there and it is lovely to have a long stroll around the town...
The elephant was fantastic to watch parading around. We got there early on Sunday morning and headed for the carousel. It was so quiet that they gave us an extra ride. It really was fantastic. There is a Spanish galleon moored on the other bank of the river. The tour around the gallery is all in French, so although we saw some of the machines move, we didn't really understand the explanations by the guides. Allow about three hours. Can't wait until there are more machines around and for the Heron Tree to be competed.
O M G 💗‼️ Please find your way here and witness the crazy detailed art work that you have a privilege to experience —— to live in this time and know that artists like this exist—- thank you
Really cool concept but as a non-french speaking tourist, I couldn't understand the museum demonstrations. I can imagine the whole area being a little more lively on a weekend, so it could be nice to go on the carousel and just watch the elephant ride by rather than pay to go into the museum.
This is a must-see. The Elephant is jaw-dropping. You could watch the carousel all day, and going on it for rides is great fun. I can't believe I haven't heard of this place. The shop also has awesome stuff in it.
Cool experience. Staff makes the machines move and if you're lucky, you score a ride. Fascinating engineering at a cool venue. Smaller than expected though and with the storytelling rather something for children.
Really interesting and impressive. The elephant was my favourite. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Explanations about exhibits all in both French and English. Just a shame that the website does not explain things very well - I didn't really know what to expect and when I'm traveling 2 hours each way to visit I would like to understand what I'm going to see.
Extraordinary and unique experience. Take a ride on the elephant and see how imagination of Jules Verne will be brought to life
Nice place to check out if you have time. Especially fun for children.
Really the best recognised place in Nantes city. All kinds of things to do there for kids and for grown-ups. If chance, definitely go ride the mechanical elephant, also the showeroom of the future plans are amazing.
Loved it. Such an amazing place. The machines are fantastic. Magic and utopic
The most memorable place during my visit to Nantes. The place is easy to find and there is a bike station nearby. It's a fun place for both adult and children and a heaven for those who love machine! The most awesome thing is the giant elephant robot. It's slow but it can walk and we can ride on it!
