Le Palais de la Culture et de la Science (en polonais : Pałac Kultury i Nauki, PKiN) est un gratte-ciel édifié à Varsovie entre 1952 et 1955. Il compte 3 288 pièces réparties sur 42 étages et mesure 231 mètres (au sommet de l’antenne de télévision) sur 3,3 hectares de terrain et de volume de 817 000 m3. À l’époque de sa construction et jusqu’en 1990, c’était le deuxième bâtiment le plus haut d’Europe après l’Université d'État de Moscou. C’est encore — en 2012 — le plus grand bâtiment de Pologne et le 9e plus haut de l'Union européenne. Le visiteur peut accéder jusqu’aux terrasses du 31e étage, qui offrent une vue imprenable sur la ville.
Dans un contexte de guerre froide, Staline décida au début des années 1950 que le peuple soviétique allait offrir l'une des « sœurs » de l'architecte Lev Roudnev au peuple polonais. La construction du gratte-ciel débuta donc le et fut achevée le . La cérémonie d'ouverture eut lieu le . Alors que les pays d’Europe centrale et orientale se remettaient à peine de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, qui les avait presque anéantis, dans un contexte économique très difficile, la construction de ce « palais » gigantesque mobilisa des ressources matérielles et humaines considérables : elle fut entièrement financée par l'Union soviétique et réalisée par 3 500 spécialistes et ouvriers soviétiques. Treize ouvriers perdirent la vie pendant la construction.

When you’re visiting Warsaw this place is a must see... take a lift to the top and see the whole of the city. Plenty of eateries around the area and lots of site seeing tours from there too. Try going to see it without a wow.. no chance!!
The tour is well worth it to learn about Polish history, the story of the Russian occupation, the Communist regime and life from WW2 until the fall of Communism in the late 80s. The building itself is an interesting architectural monument, with fascinating tales told by the guide about its design, construction and history. It has amazing views over the city of Warsaw from the top of the tower, it has many nooks and crannies with interesting paintings on the walls, and the history that unfolded there is eye-opening. The building is a controversial one, a symbol of oppression and dislike for many Poles, yet an integral part of their history and daily cultural life in the city.
It's a great view at the top, and there's a bunch to do inside. But the layout isn't good. You can't explore, it's very guided, but at the same time it's difficult to find all the exhibits. It's a super cool building from the outside, but I would argue going inside is not mandatory if you're here to see the city.
A nice cafe inside. The park around is really nice to sit. They arrange really cool activities and exhibitions for free so that's exciting!!
The stronghold of communism. Old and glorified building, which I thought was going to be spectacular but rather mediocre. We visited the rooftop and it was alright, it had a nice view. However, there where long lines and hard to both get up and down the building. If it's first time in Warsaw I could recommend a visit, but not a revisit.
