Did you accidentally book a trip to Austria? Did you mean to go to Australia? Are you sad because there are no kangaroos around? Fear not: this zoo located in Vienna, Austria has kangaroos! They also have sloths! Sloths are my favorite animal.
Great place for adults and kids. Many activities for kids. The aquariums were the most impressive as the panda of course. The wintertime isn't the best time to visit the zoo though. Some animals were hybernating or hiding.
I love it! It's better to go in winter than in summer although the visiting times are shorter (just until 16.30) but the animals are awake and you can say all of them (just koalas are sleeping, they didn't care efficacy season is it) :D
A little disappointing.! Well, we visited few zoos in Europe, so in comparison, this one is a little disappointing. The admission fees is not cheap as well. At time of our visit many animals were either absent or sleepy. the zoo it self is compact but to reach the higher part you have to walk a steep way amidst a beautiful woods. We were not impressed but soon we were rewarded by visiting a better zoo in Prague.
The best zoo I've ever been. Animals look good and healthy, have enough space in the cages. I suggest to go there for all day to see everything and don't hurry up. Pandas are the super stars of zoo :)
A very nice Zoo, a great place to bring your kids and awesome to spend the whole day there. There is one little downside: in many other zoos, even in Europe, they let visitors some closer access to the animals. In some cases, e.g. Hamburg, you can even have contact with some of the animals like Kattas. I understand that the Zoo Vienna tries hard to be a respectful zoo towards the animals, but a little interaction would be appreciated.
One of the Best ZOO's I had visited. I saw a great variety of animals. The ZOO houses some very rare species (on the way to extinction, like the Giant Panda; or some species of fish). The ZOO seemed to be expanding and upgrading some of the terrain; which is always a good thing for the animals. I would for sure recommand a visit. It is enriching. --- And one more thing: there ARE Kangaroo's in Austria, even in Viena - of course in the ZOO; proof in the pictures :)!
It is always a great day when I visit the zoo with a lot of happy people and families. The zoo itself is very well organized, very clean and the people working there are very friendly. There are a lot of offering for children - from the zoo train up to the playground where the parents have the possibility to rest and the children can run and play undisturbed.
Best Zoo ever. Visit this Zoo in late March 2018. It is located in Vienna, in the gardens of the Schonbrunn Palace. The zoo is much bigger than you think, and you need a half day or a full day to visit it all. There you can find any kind of animals from rhinos to penguins, from lions to giraffes, from ants to snakes...and the list is never ending. There are special areas for penguins, alligators etc. There is also a big closed area which is the replica of a rain forest and its habitats. A real worth visit, especially for the young ones.
This is one of the nicest zoos. We were delighted to see the ice bears playing in water, the penguins, the pandas (adorable), the koalas as we don’t have all these animals at our zoo. Make sure you have cash with you. You can’t always pay with a card, mostly inside.
With ViennaPass the entrance is free. Very enthusiastic place. As I saw the animals have enough space for walking. It has a large area. I mean gigantic... We walked for 3 or 4 hours there and the cause of lack of time we wasn't able to check everything... But I think it worth it :)
Unique zoopark! If you are in Vienna and love animals, you must see this zoo. Many different animals from whole over the world. To see all the animals should half a day. In the area of the zoo there are places where you can buy food and drinks.
I absolutely love the Zoo and have already my third annual card and planning to purchase it again once my current one expires. I love it because it is so green and so big with countless attractions. The animals have very different houses spread all over the huge area of the Zoo so as you walk around you slowly get to discover more animals and some really cool spots, like the orangutan house, which is a bit hidden and has a restaurant and a playground beside it, or the penguins indoor pool, where you can see them swimming under water, as well as the animals directly in the wild, like white wolves, where there is also a really cool playground and as you go up into the wild you find this nice authentic Austrian restaurant and going back to the lower part you go across an impressive suspension bridge, and so many other unique spots that you find each time you visit, reason why an annual card is so worth it then we don't have to rush when visiting, we simply enjoy. If you have a chance to watch some of the animals feeding it's worth it to plan for it (on the Zoo map they note which animals are fed when), one of my favorites are the sea lions, cause they do some jumps to catch their fish, it's quite fun. Now in summer is even nicer cause all restaurants offer outdoor seating and the kids can have even more fun in one of the many playgrounds.
This zoo is not only great for kids, it's something for everyone! It's a pretty normal zoo compared to others, but it still features lovely animals and the workers there look after these animals perfectly. Awesome pictures can be taken here. Even our teenagers thought the guided tour was very interesting and we could all learn some surprising facts and hilarious stories about the animals in this zoo!
This place is worth seeing. It is a very large zoo, so I would suggest planning the whole day for the visit. We stayed for 6,5 hours to see the whole zoo. It's interesting to catch some talking/feeding times, when you can see the animals in action. I wish they held the talking times in English, too. They also have ongoing conservation projects for the protection of some endangered species. My favourite spot was the cave where you could walk through flying bats. There were no wolves present when I visited.
One of the best zoos in the world. 10/10 worth going, if you are in Vienna, it's best thing to spend on money! Animals are amazing, staff is amazing, animal shows are breathtaking and whole park with it's little details is just nice! I'm very happy that I've been there, hope will visit it again!
You could get there by foot or by public transportation or by car. If you choose personal car you should be there in the morning because there are limited parking spaces. Nearby is a cementery and the parking is quite free but still limited as time. About the zoo, for a family of 4 i paid 50 euro and you could stay as much as you wish. It's a very wide and you could spent several hours to see it all. They have also a lot of restaurants inside and coffee shops.
Generally good day out. We went with kids on an extremely hot day, most animals were in hiding but it was generally nice. Plenty of drinking fountains around for you to fill water bottles. They have feeding times for various animals, so it is worth looking up the times before coming. I would recommend going for the seal feeding (around 10:30 CET). The orangutan's restaurant was cheap and had decent food (burger was at least) - I'd recommend going there if you don't have packed lunch.
A really good zoo. There live animals you will never see in eastern Europe. A special interest is gained by pandas. This is one of the two zoos in Europe where you may see a giant panda. The zoo is surrounded by a huge territory with a Palace, garden, park. Just amazing place. Is a must in Vienna.
Best zoo we've ever seen ... and been to many. Went at opening and animals were being fed so very active. Koalas, polar bears and alligators were my kids' favorite. You could get a good view. Nice little walk through woods to see wolves & bees. Beautiful buildings & gardens throughout.
On our last day in this cultural capital we decided to explore the zoo (my wife & me). We were in for such pleasant surprises and breathtaking moments. When the tiger just walks past you through the glass window you cannot help but hold your breathe. The adorable penguins are such a delight to watch. The sea lions and the their language would make any adult explore their childish side. And so many more... Highly recommended!
An absolutely awesome zoo! All the animals seemed happy and were very active! The zoo was clean and even though we visited in on a busy Saturday afternoon, we were able to see everything and get around with ease. Took about 3 hours to walk around the entire zoo taking our time! Would defined recommend for any age if you are in the area!
One of the best zoo I have visited. Has everything polar bears, penguins, pandas, giraffe, elephants. Has a great sections on tropical plants, birds as well as sea creatures. The best part was we could observe these unique species up close and that enhanced the experience. It also has great activities for kids which makes it a complete family outing package. I will highly recommend this for everyone.
Loved this zoo. The only disappointment for me was, when I went it was feeding and mucking out paddocks time so couldn't see some of the animals unless you went inside. Enclosures themselves were good, nice and spacious and all the animals looked well cared for. But no sign at all of the polar bears or arctic wolves which was a bit disappointing.
Beautiful zoo, kids are free. Bring a hat and snacks because it gets pretty hot during the summer. An average meal at an inside biergarten with drink is about €15 pp Make sure to be at the sea lion enclosure at 10:30 as it is super funny and entertaining! Careful if you stand on the first row, you will most probably get salt water all over you!
