Blackwell is a large house in the English Lake District, designed in the Arts and Crafts style by Baillie Scott. It was built 1898–1900, as a holiday home for Sir Edward Holt, a wealthy Manchester brewer. It is situated near the town of Bowness-on-Windermere with views looking over Windermere and across to the Coniston Fells.

Well worth a visit. History of this arts and crafts building well presented. Food good but not expensive.
Unbelievable hidden gem. The house is stunning. Cafe excellent home cooked, reasonable price. Recommended!
Wonderful house brilliantly run. Shop full of interesting things & tea shop serves a good cuppa & cake. Definitely worth a visit.
We went for a spot of lunch and expected it to be a quiet tea room but it was the complete opposite. The soup was lovely and cake was delicious. The homemade lemonade was very sweet but liked by many. The service was slow but staff were friendly. Would recommend for elderly people who want a quiet escape.
Very interesting house. Architecture is lovely and very interesting. Grounds are nice to wander around. Good parking and a tea room are available. Staff are friendly and helpful.
A really interesting look at the details and thought that went into building one of Windermere s most magnificent houses. Temporary exhibitions are a really good idea and the one we saw was really unique. Cafe also does some amazing food and desserts!
Lovely house and small amount of garden to view. Not much of the house on show but making the most of what is. Big gift shop.
I love this place, it is an incredible house and not at all stuffy like many other large houses in the area, you are free to wander around without being looked at like you are going to break everything. The white room is really nice :-)
My favourite house to visit. If you like Arts and Crafts, this is a place not to be missed. Child friendly and a good cafe which opens half an hour before the house.
A real gem of a place, definitely worth a detour. Beautifully preserved and conserved arts and crafts leisure house, full of charming surprises such as the white room, cosy sub rosa fireplace, extensive wooden panelling, seats in nooks with hidden views of the garden. The garden has beautiful views over the Lakes as well as views of the asymmetrical layout of the windows.
Excellent house to visit, with every room having interesting artifacts. At the moment a ceramics collection was on display in some rooms as a bonus. Good food at the café was very good value.
Had a delicious beef stew and beautiful tea loaf with cheese. My husband also enjoyed his goat's cheese salad and scone with cream and jam. We then bought some things in the lovely shop. The staff in both places were exemplary....friendly, efficient and just jolly nice people. Thank you.
This is a fantastic place. Great views and fantastic house we went in january and would love to go in summer
A wonderful house, full of arts and crafts decor and furnishings, a shop with products by local artists, and a great restaurant. There are also special exhibitions. I've been to this house many times and never tire of it.
Calming. Beautiful. Great views. Fantastic detail. Always something new to admire and learn
The house itself is truly beautiful and will keep you occupied for a couple of hours or so. The cafe is great. Free parking. Beautiful fell and lake views and in summer you can take meals on outside terrace
A magical setting above Bowness, with far reaching panoramic views. The house is a beautiful survivor from the Arts and Crafts period. No expense was spared in its original construction and it's restoration has been undertaken very sympathetically. The cafe provides light lunches, cakes and refreshments. Bright and modern, with lovely staff. Our food was delicious and some tables allow you to take in that view whilst you eat. A wonderful day out.
