The Yerevan Zoo, also known as the Zoological Garden of Yerevan (Armenian: Երևանի կենդաբանական այգի (Yerevani kendabanakan aygi)), is a 35-hectare (86-acre) zoo established in 1940 in Yerevan, Armenia.
At present the zoo is home to about 2749 individuals representing 204 species. Species representing the South Caucasus and Armenia include Syrian brown bears, Bezoar goats, vipers, Armenian mouflon, and black vultures. Other species at the zoo from around the world include African lions, tigers (Bengal and Siberian subspecies), spotted hyenas, Caucasian lynx and an Indian elephant named Grantik.

This place keeps surprising me every time I take my kids there.
Few years ago this place looked forgotten (cages were small and dirty, animals looked sick and hungry). But the Zoo make a good progress since then. Now its mainly looks like the other Zoos in developed countries.

I've been in Yerevan Zoo 5 years ago. So much have been changed. There are very few cages left there. Most of the animals live in open range cages. The Zoo has mach bigger land and more happy animals.

Zoo reopened. Very affordable and great for small children. Hopefully they will continue to grow. Great walking, early morning recommended.

Lovely zoo. Uphill walk so prepare to sweat. Good variety of animals and very clean.

Nice zoo, some say it’s small, but there are a lot of animals, and they look happy!
There is a hippo in the pool :)

I haven't visited the Yerevan Zoo for about 10 years and was very surprised and happy to see that renovated. The Zoo differs a lot. It's much larger, spacious, green, neat & clean. Many animals now live in large outdoor enclosures and seem much happier. I hope monkeys will also relocate from their old and narrow cages soon. I also noticed good changes in people's attitude towards animals. I would like to mention Lida - a young friendly girl who takes care of horses and seems to really love them and enjoys her work. I wish the rest of the zookeepers of the Zoo were dedicated to their job and respected animals, too.
