Taman Sari Water Castle, also known as Taman Sari (Javanese: ꦠꦩꦤ꧀ ꦱꦫꦶ), is the site of a former royal garden of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. It is located about 2 km south within the grounds of the Kraton, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Built in the mid-18th century, the Taman Sari had multiple functions, such as a resting area, a workshop, a meditation area, a defense area, and a hiding place.

A must see when in Yogyakarta. The Water Palace/Taman Sari has undergone much renovation since my last visit, about 25 years ago. There is actually water in the pools there now; possibly the huge amounts of rain this rainy season have something to do with that? Worth the small expense of a local guide who knows the history and his way around. Pictured is our guy, who was terrific.

They offered free English guide for us at the entrance. It’s more interesting and save time. Make sure you go early in the morning if you want to make some nice photos here, after will have a lot of people and weather really hot.

I like the place. One thing that I didn't like was when we were trying to find sign of directions, a guy approached us and showing the way without us asking him. Turned out he was a guide, so we had to pay him. I didn't mind about paying a guide. But he didn't say anything about being a guide and we didn't make any deal about the price of his service. We just thought that he was only helping us. It was out fault that we just followed him without asking, so I hope that you will be more prepared than us.

The village take place in the middle of palace. Tamansari has so many place for best photography view. I think it has many secret spot you need to explore. Going there for only 2 hours, I meet the friendly local guide. He know very well about the hidden spot and best view for photography while the common people not aware. If you need to know the contact of the local guide, feel free to contact me.

Love this place. Such a historic and unique place. The building isn't that simple as I thought. The ticket price for locals is just Rp. 5000. There are many guides there if you need any help, but don't forget to tip them. If you're travelling alone and need a person to take your pictures, the guides can be an option. But don't expect too much for the quality of their snaps.

Very beautiful spot for snap shoot. With the helpful and warm local guide, we got new knowledge the history of Taman Sari. They're volunter, no giving you net price for whole information. She will telling you the story when you walk to all spot. More offer, I've visit 5 spots and that was amazing.

This place originality is still preserved up to this day, this is what i really amazed at when I first stepped in to Taman Sari. You’ll discover many corners of traditional architecture and see how huge and rich the culture is. The ticket price is reasonable, foods variety are also served around. The most eye-catching was the t-shirt painter around the village. Worth-visiting!

Walk around this buildings and you can also see the villagers who stay in there. There are snack sellers in this place with affordable price. Here you can also find many domestic or international tourists. Beautiful.

This is one of historical site in Yogyakarta. It was a palace for the King, before they moved to a new palace they've been living now. What makes it special about the building is, it's built without using cements / portland, but they use white eggs. To get to know more about the story, you can ask for local guide to explain about the history. They will help you to have site tour around the area.

A well-known historical landscape in Yogyakarta. It has a beautiful pool and it is a beautiful spot to take your picture. However, the weather could be very hot in the afternoon, so I recommend to wear sunglassed, hat, comfortable shoes, and get your sunscreen on! Visitor can also explore the underground building on the other location. You can ask for a guide or you can just follow another visitors walk to the site :)

It's a historical place of Yogyakarta. This place full of mystery and when you want to take a photo of some place you better be careful of, that's what the Javanese believes about the untangible things. There's a lot of tour guide here, you better be with them to show you a lot about the place because it's separate one to another. The tourist guide is warm and kind, they will explain you a lot about the historical story beneath that place. Some of them could speak English so don't worry about it

charming!! there are lots of local guide there if you need, no cost, just tip them as much as you want. I didn't use the guide and I think it's not easy but not too complicated to walk by your own. Avoid weekend if you can because it's so crowded!! I couldn't get the photos where i want just because I was too lazy to wait.

Went to Taman Sari on a weekend. Don’t go there without a guide! It’s hard to appreciate the culture and history without someone translating or explaining the parts of the village. Guide cost is IDR 50,000. I was a little bit underwhelmed with what other tourists photos compared to the reality.

The Water Palace is nice to see and therefore a lot of tourists can be found there. It is definitely worth it when visiting Yogyakarta, but you should go as early as you can. Watch out for the people who want to steer you in the wrong direction to a market. Besides the water pools, there is also an underground mosque. It was a bit hard to find and crowded with people taking photoshoots. Overall, visit the Water Palace, but do not stay longer than 1 hour.

Taman Sari has very beautiful decoration. Located in the center of Yogyakarta and so you can easily find it by using street sign. Google maps also helps a lot.
