Zagreb City Museum or Museum of the City of Zagreb (Croatian: Muzej grada Zagreba) located in 20 Opatička Street, was established in 1907 by the Association of the Brethren of the Croatian Dragon (Croatian: Braća hrvatskoga zmaja).
It is located in a restored monumental complex (12th-century Popov toranj, the Observatory, 17th-century Zakmardi Granary) of the former Convent of the Poor Clares, of 1650.

Nicely situated museum (old town) which explains Zagreb's history from the Hallstatt culture up to recent history. You are allowed to enter 30 min prior to closure but I recommended to plan a minimum of 2 hours (unfortunately I was asked to leave at Biedermeier epoch) for the visit. It is larger on the inside than one would imagine. There's also a restaurant in the nice courtyard (haven't tried it)

A very interesting museum in Upper Zagreb. Probably - at least in my eyes - the best in Croatia's capital. Lots of information about the city's history from the stone age until now. And from time to time they even show an exhibition full of Yugo nostalgia. I loved the one showing pictures from Trešnjevka neighbourhood and the one about the history of Zagreb's children's hospital. Both on display in early 2018. You can spent there many days but for a first glance 2 or 3 hours will do, too. However, 4 stars only because there is only very little information in English. If any.

The museum's ticket seller was the kindest one I have ever seen in Europe. She allowed me to get in without payment (they do not accept bank car payments which is my preference) and asked to bring money tomorrow :)

If you ask me, by far my favourite museum in the city! Recommended even if you don't really care that much about the history of Zagreb.

Has English and German translation to most exhibits. A tour deforce display of entire history of Zagreb, including parts of an excavated ancient village street found under the museum building. If you are a history buff you will want to pace your visit as the museum is decievingly large. It is hard to cover it all in one visit.
